:mad Auto Insurance no longer required in Florida

Come October 1st "No Fault" Auto Insurance will no longer be required in Florida if you have a clean driving record.

This is fucking ridiculous.

This means that the rest of us (who want or will still be required to have it) will be paying 30% MORE!

Only 3 other states are like this. Wisconsin, Iowa, and Tennessee.

Yep, just idiotic. The attorneys will love it though because now we'll have to sue the morons that hit us and don't have insurance.

Maybe this is Florida's way of saying fuck you to all the insurance companies and are raising rates/pulling out of the state/not paying claims for a lot of people down there.

That's definately a nice, "fuck you", to the insurance company coffers.

Yeah, it's also insane that the insurance industry ever got a law passed requiring it.

If you want to be protected then get full coverage and it doesn't matter about the person who wrecks into you.

The whole "required" insurance thing came about when there was more insurance companies in the game and they all thought the could save money by making the other company pay for the accident.

Now with fewer players they all end up paying anyway so the "no fault" thing came in.

Now the reality that these assholes do everything they can to not pay a claim anyway, so why fuck with people by making them pay for something that don't pay.

The reason they did this is because forcing people to have insurance did not scare people who didn't have it into getting it, so that extra money idea failed. So now, people who have insurance have to pay extra to cover themselves against uninsured people. And insured people are more likely to pay more to cover themself, than people with no insurance are to get insurance, therefore making insurance companies more money.

Same concept in porn actually, the whole AVS thing, people who paid to join an AVS were more likely to get out their credit cards to pay again for memberships to other sites, which is why that traffic was and still is better.

True, but big surprise...people who couldn't afford something didn't buy it.

Which means that a lot of folks who are still required to have insurance will decide to go without it anyway.

This is going to really snowball.

Hey, come on, you pulled that figure out of your ass...
And actually it would make more sense if it fell by 30%... Forcing people to have insurance creates demand for it... less demand for something = lower prices...

no i did not pull it out of my ass, heard it on the radio tonight, in fact i knew nothing about this whole thing until I heard it on the radio.

101.1 out of orlando

I think the main reason why this NO Fault stuff passed legislation was to cut down on fraud that is plaguing our society.

After thinking about this for a bit, anyone with a new car is still going to need insurance ( i would think) either required by the finance company or you'd be dumb to drive around in a new car with no insurance.

Also leased vehicles will still need it.

I also just realized motorcycles never have needed it, I often wondered how they get away with that. I have 2 of bikes with no insurance, I guess they feel that you can't do much damage to someone else on one.

oh and less demand does not = lower prices
more demand = lower prices

priced a leer jet lately?

if everyone could afford a leer jet they would be a lot cheaper.

This is what made Henry Ford rich from selling cars in the beginning.
