iPhone vs Nokia N95
Forget that google contraption cos it looks more like a suitcase than a cell phone (and it isn't yet in Europe), but I just dumped my N95 for an iPhone, because the N95 was a piece of crap if you had a Mac - oh, the woes, don't let me go there!
So, yes, I dumped out a shitload for an iPhone over the weekend, and what bliss - to just have this shit from out of the box, plug into my Mac and basically sync my entire life and then just do exactly what I wanted is an absolute lifesaver. I did't doubt that this thing was going to do all that out the box, as I have a Mac and always will, but what I would like to know is how well does it work with Windows users, bearing in mind something that the N95 I had that was designed with Windows in mind made my life hell.... does the iPhone work with Windows as well as it dose with the Mac? If not, what is the best phone under Windows? Shit about the iPhone that pisses me off is MMS, copy and paste and lack of email spam filters. Anything I missed in these last couple of days? Don't lets start a windows v mac flame as I don't want tha - I use Mac because it has always done what I demand of it, you use Windows because it does what you demand of it - both are excellent OS's - I just would like to know about how these new fangled phones work w/r to different OS's, though I won't change my iPhone now for anything (cos it cost a shitload ![]()

what I mean is this phone (from France) auto-detected my keyboard/language preference, all my contacts, my calendar meetings, alarms, shit like birthdays, WiFi settings, auto-recognised my wife's mac (and imported RSA keys to auto SSH in (via a 3rd party app which is really odd!), Safari bookmarks - all the stuff outside of iTunes, was auto-imported. I'm guessing that won't work under Windows...?

right - you prefer the n95 cos you're on windows I suppose? The N95 played shit with me under Mac, so naturally I like the iPhone - so the iPhone works like shit (ala N95/mac) under Windows or just 'better'?

I would expect the iPhone to work right of the box with a Mac I mean it's the same company/platform Nokia uses Symbian it's not really a windows based phone |

battery life - hahaha, I just thought cos over the weekend I was hammering it with data and shit!!
I really didn't know it was symbian - never bothered to check. One thing I like about the 95 though is the file transfer via blootooth... Ok, I could never go n95->mac to grab files, but using the mac to transfer files to the n95 worked flawlessly. To do the same on the iPhone, there is fuck all out of the box. I ended up paying 5 euro for "Files" which works great, but only via a samba server started on the iphone. Pretty shit when the iPhone is on a wireless net and the Mac is on a hardwired non-wireless net (ie diff IP ranges). Besides a bluetooth earpiece, whats the point of bluetooth on the iphone? Even the Mac says something about "nothing can be done with this device over bluetooth" when it pairs with the mac. I just get the impression, that the iPhone can *become* something great, but it's definitely a junior in this market, but when it comes to Mac users, it's the best thing on the market. I do think if I was a windows user, I would have never even thought about the iphone though - it is awesome (never even seen/used the 96)

really???? I could *never get that phone to sync my address book and ical at all, and shit, I followed many many websites and spent many looooong nights.... synching music and movies and shit, I don't care for (not even on the iphone) as I hav far too much to fit on a phone/would ever use on a phone anyway, so I always manually manage those things, but contacts and calendar synching for me is #1. I really *really* like that synching on the iphone for these is a 2-way event... add calendar events to the phone that are not on the mac, get synched to the mac. When I did get the 95 working with the mac, it was a very definite 1-way event, to the tune of new events added to the 95 were erased when the Mac was synced -grrrr

![]() First out with the keyboard pissed me off no end - for some reason all the keys on the right would always be typed wrong, but over a couple of days, the auto-correct now picks up the vast majority of my mistakes. Mail though should definitely be rotation aware - a widescreen keyboard with bigger keys would be very welcomed from me!
