I did, but it turned out to be cheaper just to go to medical school and become my own doctor.

But I actually do, it's shitty though like all insurance even though it costs a fortune. They fight you on everything

At almost 69 years of age, I'll probably be needing health help soon. I'm covered by the military's Tricare-For-Life, by Medicare, and by the VA which has a major and very efficient Medical Center six blocks from me here in San Diego.

I also do a lot of preventive stuff, like the 30 miles of brisk walking in the last seven days covered with sun block (The Navy medical Center here has operated on my face three times over the past five years for skin cancers, plus they screen me every 3-4 months for additional pre-cancer spots which they freeze off). We ALL need to be preventive, I feel!

I'm covered under something a lot of Americans like to refer to as the evil socialized medicine. So evil. So aweful. It's real name: Manitoba Medical.

And I love it.

OHIP (Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan)

But aside from the lacklustre coverage of OHIP, our family is covered under my wife's benefit package where she works. Major dental, eyeglasses, prescrips...the works.

Do you know what your cap is? Caz through your job, and especially if they pay part or all of the bill ... you prob. got nothing worth speaking on.

I got a community hospital - fuck it. They can't refuse anyone ... shhh, dont tell anyone - but us poor folks call that free healthcare.

Dave,
I just saw a photo of you in the latest Xbiz (I think that was it) and your face does not look 69 years. Did the operations on your face pull your skin tighter or what? You look great man!

Nothing cosmetic, though the female military Dermatology surgeons were very conscientious about scarring---I told them that I didn't care what I'd look like, I just wanted them to get that cancer out of me. The upper lip was 9 stitches, the one on the base of my nose was 18 stitches but is mostly hidden by the "laugh line" crease, and the third one was on the side of the nose and had no stitches but was "babied" along with constant ointments while the scar healed (there's a sorta "crater" there, now). Thanks for the kind comments, but I am indeed a old man:-).

Please make certain your loved ones use sun block!

I suggest everyone go out & at least spend $100 a month on "emergency/catastrophic" insurance.

Dave is right about the sun block. I'm an ex-Army Sergeant and I can tell you that I make a yearly trip to the dermotologist for a checkup.

I usually come out looking like I've been in a fight.

I have basic emergency/catastrophic type coverage, but since I have asthma I can't buy any insurance that will cover anything asthma related so I pay for my medicine and doctor visits out of my own pocket for that.

The funny thing is if I were to get a job for a company that had health insurance my asthma would be covered, but since I am an individual I can't get it because I am a "poor investment" and would actually use the insurance.

I do because I'm 24 and still technically covered by my mother's healthcare...she works for the school system and gets amazing health care.
I'm screwed next year when I turn 25 though and I'll be left at the mercy of my "employers healthcare"....
