I think alot of times it all comes down to camaraderie and bonding and a sense of belonging to a group. Strangers can sit down together in a bar and root for the same team, strike up a conversation, share stories, etc. You don't even really have to be a sports fan to sit down and enjoy the emotion and excitement others have in rooting for their favorite team. There are extremes sure, but what it all boils down to I feel is just a sense of belonging that can be shared even among strangers.

I couldn't agree with your video more, Hal.

But let's be realistic. You're a hugger, a spiritual, open-minded, deep, thinking, feeling soul. I'm willing to bet that if we went to an NFL game and walked around together offering hugs to the jersey'd masses, there wouldn't be many takers except the guys offering to fight us for "intruding in their space".

You've also got a pink obsession and are occassionally rather ambiguous sexually. It's not surprising that bratwurst, sourkraut, beer, face paint, foam hats and the 9'ers aren't your Sunday thing.

What bothers me about sports is going to a game and some asshole is yealling at the team and talking about " What WE need to do is this or that " Who is WE???? The players dont give a fuck about you, they dont give a fuck about the stadium and that is one of the major reasons sports are not as good as they used to be.

Just think how staggering that is. And of course witness the Flavian Amphitheatre ( The Colosseum ) and her prominance in Rome. On particularily good years citizens might enjoy upwards of 200 days of games in a single year!

I recently watched a documentary about tesosterone. Women can actually tell men that have higher levels of tesosterone just from pictures. It's a natural thing and must be part of the original courting process. Just as men are attracted to large breasts and hips, so too are women attracted to Tesosterone.

Levels of Tesosterone are not static. They flucate depending on all sorts of things. When men get together and compete you can actually measure an increased level of Tesosterone through out the game. Interestingly enough the winning team will tend to have a higher peak level and a slower ramping down process than the losing team.

Anyway, like I said, it's in our blood.
rome also built bath houses so they could participate in gay sex with young males, and taught bisexuality until it became the "Holy Roman Empire" - young males were taught to explore both sides of sexuality before choosing a female to partner with etc... bath houses had gay porn on the walls.

heheh

roman emperors had LOTS of gay and bi sex... so is this related? lol

i dont think its a coincedence that a people who gave us "gladiators" would also detail their bisexuality and practice gay sex out in the open.

christianity came along and THEN gay became bad, but not until.

Whoa hold on. You're right that bisexuality and homosexuality were deffinetly around back then, but the Roman's were not as overtly sexual a society as people used to think. The uncovering of Pompeii, buried in the ash and lava in an almost perfect state really changed a lot of myths people used to hold as truths about the Romans and Roman life. The bath houses were a social setting, not a giant orgy.

Emperors were openly gay, and there was gay porn on the walls of bath houses.

two men and women having sex.

im not arguing, but the fact of the matter is, Romans were as gay as West Hollywood. and open about it.

Nero MARRIED a male as EMPEROR!

I am a huge fan of sports.....no team or sport in particular. I simply love the competitive action that often can result in a bloody punch up or a huge monster of a man crying on the side line cos they lost. LMAO It is purely entertainment and goes great with beer, pretzels and hot dogs. hehehe
Bugger, now I'm hungry. LOL

If you don't feel that way about something...then you are a loser in my book
Ahhh, NOW I get it!!
;)

Although, Burning Man is deeply participatory, while sports is generally a spectator event.

That being said, I am starting to get a much better idea of how spectating and being a fan IS a form of participating.

SORRY for calling any of you Losers. I didn't mean it. I was just trying strike a nerve. (ANd Glad I did, the responses are great. I actually DO understand better.)

ALSO: I still could use some comments love on the nbc.com page. (It makes me look good to my producer.)

You'll Never Walk Alone is the club anthem of both Liverpool and Celtic. How can anyone say that's not an awesome sight?
Hail Hail !!!!!!

The Celtic shirt gets recognized everywhere! I've been on vacation in Vegas, Dom. Republic, Ibiza etc and i get people coming up to me and speaking to me in a friendly manner because of the shirt i wear.

Can't say the same for Rangers supporters though who are assholes in general...
