I have TB 2.0.0.21, while an automatic compaction of the inbox, I hit the ok button, and closed TB prematurely. upon reopening, inbox was empty. I had around 10k messages, and yes, now have found out about taking care of my inbox. I have several accounts, three use shared folder, but this is my main personal account. so the directory is listed as pop.west.cox-1.net I first checked http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail, and related, but found out the inbox file only is about 1.73 KB, the .msf not much larger, in comparison, send file is 91.4 MB, and the sent.msf is 203KB, so, I know that only the inbox was affected. I have not seen any threads that exactly relate to this. I use 3 other emails from the same isp in this profile, and they use Local Folders, and can see the directories are pop.west.cox.net, pop.west.cox-2.net, pop.west.cox-5.net, I also have in the profile pop.west.cox-4.net, and 3.net. the inbox files there are zero KB in size.

I installed a new Anti Virus yesterday evening, and it was still running an initial scan up until I noticed the inbox missing. I stopped it, but there were no items in quarantine, and I have auto delete turned off, even though there is nothing in the history of the AV showing any spyware or malware caught. So I do not believe that the AV caught the email file as dangerous. I am using now counterspy v. 3.1.2710 definitions current as of 3/28/09 from sunbeltsoftware. All other email accounts in this profile are intact and fine. Thank you for any help! http://gsfn.us/t/4291

"It's possible that the ".msf" files (index files) are corrupted. To rebuild the index of a folder, right-click it, select Properties, and choose "Rebuild Index" from the General Information tab. You can also close Thunderbird and manually delete them from your profile folder; they will be rebuilt when Thunderbird starts. " Of course back up your profile before you start this. Good luck!
