Traveling to South America, questions

My cousin is in the Peace Corps in Paraguay... my aunt is planning on visiting him soon but he wants to meet up in Peru before heading back to Paraguay. They plan on spending about five days in Peru and would like to visit Machu Picchu. She is concerned that there is a limited amount of people that can attend Machu Picchu and she doesn't want to miss her opportunity window.

What can you guys tell me about visiting Machu Picchu and visiting Peru in general? They would like to do more in Peru than just Machu Picchu but that is the main goal.

You can (and many say should) make a reservation for Machu Picchu / The Inca Trail, though I just asked my good friend who is Peruvian and lives in Peru and he says, "No, just show up."

If you're in Peru, GO TO CUZCO!!!

Yeah Cuzco is amazing. We had models coming from there. They were really nice. A bit on the roomy side, but they're beautiful women and they're not shy to show you they like you. :-)

You MUST go to Cuzco if you want to go to Machu Pichu, the train leave from there. If you have time enough I recommend you to go there to Titicaca lake, go to the "Isla del Sol" (Sun Island) and then crossing to Bolivia. Donīt lose the chance to know the wanderful landscapes of Bolivia, the beautiful jewel of south america.

Oh yeah, eat as much ceviche as you possibly can, drink pisco sours and eat the choclo (their corn).

Machu Pitchu is pretty much a 2 - 3 day trip. It's not something you can just drive to and check out for a few hours, like Niagara Falls.

That's what I thought, that's why I'm trying to get the details. These are the type of details that I need. How long is it going to take? What is actually involved? How does the trip go? Stuff like that.

So MP... are we talking three days to be able to enjoy it or is three days still going to be rushed? MP is the main focus so if it takes most of the trip they will be okay with that, but they want to know so that they can be prepared for that kind of commitment.

Uhm, be wary of the roadside ceviche if you don't like getting the runs.

It was like a bus, train, hike trip. The train trip was nice and relaxing. Lots of scenery to check out along the way. We had some Peruvians from Lima go with us, so we didn't have any sort of "official" guided tour, but they are available.
