Does anyone here have solar panels?

If a solar panel is rated at 200w how much does it actually average in a 24 hour period? From what I have read that 200w number is not only when it is sunny as fuck outside but when the panels are perfectly pependicular to the sun, LOL.

In the midwest that daily average probably changes a lot from summer to winter but post what you know.

Thanks in advance.

A 200w panel would average 120w per hour (thats every hour of the day, not peak hours), year round in the midwest? That seems too good to be true. Let me know if you found anything.

yeah - I've got 3m^2 producing at its best 4.6kWc, which is made up from 2 panels of 10x230W panels. Produces all the hot water no problem for a family of 4 and the rest we sell back to the electricity company. That way, stuff for lighting, electricity kitchen hob etc is covered and the electricity company pays us an avg of €80/month for the electricity we give them.

So, with 15k investment (25k being payed for in tax breaks from the govt), we live electricty bill free and gain ~€1000 from the electricity company.

It will start making profit in about 5-6 years....

location south of france

We have 4 solar panels on the roof of the main house here and the maintenance and repairs far outweigh any benefit that we have ever had from them but we don’t have the Arizona sun here of course.

Maintenance??? Are you selling excess leccy back to the board? If so, they should be doing th annual maintenance for free. We've had ours for 5 years now and haven't needed repair yet - once a year EDF come around climb on the roof, go down to the cave and go away again - 20 mins max. no cost.

We only get enough power to provide hot water here in sunny England but the house is 4 years old and so far we have had to replace 2 panels and repair the other 2. If we get any more issues with them they will be removed.

If your local laws allow for it, go wind instead. It's cheaper, easier to manage. it won't produce as much energy as solar but it's a lot more modular.
