It seems like these days all we see is news about people losing their rights. Today the Supreme Court made a ruling that reminded the country that the Constitution does still exist.

In case you haven't been following it there was a case from about 6 years ago where a girl (then age 13) was accused of giving another girl in school an couple of Advil. The school caught one girl with the Advil and asked where she got it. She gave the name of this other girl. The school has a zero tolerance policy for drugs so you can't even have aspirin on campus. They pull the accused out of class and ask her if she gave the other girl the Advil. She denied so they searched her jacket, backpack and pants pockets. When they found nothing the vice principle wasn't happy. He instructed his assistant and the school nurse (both women) to take the girl into another room and strip search her. The girl asked for her parents and was denied. She was told if she didn't go through with the strip search she would be expelled. Of course the strip search turns up nothing. The only evidence they ever had against the girl was another girl who was trying to get out of trouble said her name.

She sued and for 6 years it has bounced around the courts. Today the supreme court ruled 8-1 that the search was illegal and that schools can't just arbitrarily strip search students.

I was glad to see that result. If it were my daughter I would have done the same as this girl's parents did.

yeah I have to admit that this court hasnt been nearly as bad as I expected them to be.

If a school stripped searched my daughter, I would end up in prison because I would beat all those involved, women and men, half to death with a pipe.

You missed the last part of the ruling. I believe they ruled that the individual school officers could not be sued.

I don't have kids myself, but I would imagine I too would be outraged just because I know if it were my niece or any of my friends kids I would be mad as hell. I have talked to about 10 people who have daughters and almost all of them have said this same thing. The people at this school are lucky the only thing they got was sued.

I grew up in a little redneck town. If a vice principle had had some girl strip searched her logger dad might have brought his shotgun down and executed the guy.

yeah it wasn't a 100% victory. They can sue the school as a whole, but not the individuals that carried out the search or gave the order for the search. I think that is BS myself. These people should be held accountable for their actions, but I guess since there was no presidence at the time they are saying these people are not responsible.

Yep. One court rules then another overturns that then another overturns the overturning and it bounces around forever. The girl this case is about is now 19 and in college.
