Check out the Horizon special "How to Kill a Human." They analyze the best method of death penalty in regards to pain and suffering, but then find that it's not welcome because the goal is to make the criminals suffer. Heavy stuff.

Some humans are just monsters. I don't think there's any earthly punishment fitting for crimes like this.
