Anyone else notice the NRA not stepping up for gun rights for Lil Wayne?

Registered gun for protection when collecting money, was no malice involved, yet where is the NRA on this one? LOL

Quote:
. but my understanding is that Cortez Bryant is one of the main guys who picks up the back-end money after shows and he had a proper [carry] permit from his state, and from his perspective he had it for protection and there was no malice intended with the gun."
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/162...il_wayne.jhtml

Just something I noticed... anytime gun issues come up you can see the NRA screaming "he has right to protection, and that trumps state law because its in the constitution"

but not this time, and he didnt even have the gun in his possession, it wasnt registered to him or anything LOL

NRA anywhere? Nope...

NRA is about legal gun ownership, that case was about who the gun belonged to, with wayne being a convicted felon, that gun shouldn't have been on the bus, but on the owners person.

hmm perhaps you are misunderstanding something about the case, the case was never about "who the gun belonged to"

The gun was registered to his manager... the case is simply about the gun being on the bus and NY gun laws, not about ownership of the gun. That was estanlished early on by the registration of the weapon.

"She again noted that the .40-caliber gun was purchased by Wayne's manager, Cortez Bryant, who had a legal permit to carry the weapon in Mississippi."

Oh I understood, the star of the show is a felon, correct? The gun should have never been on the bus unless it was being carried by the person that it was registered to, if you have a carry permit, you have to keep it from the hands of children and felons, it's a responsibility when you get a carry permit, I had one for years and the rules are very strict, in california, you can't carry in bars or San Francisco. But leaving a gun where a felon can get it was stupid.

Im not going to argue anything about this, umm but whether or not "Lil Wayne" is a felon has zero to do with another person can carry a weapon legally, as was registered to the carrier Cortez Bryant, who was of course present as he is the one who collect the money after show LOL

In fact, him having any past criminal record is not even being brought up, him being a "felon' has NOTHING to do with the charges LOL IF and I say IF he was holding the gun, he would be facing MORE than 1 year LOl which proves my point.

Are you even reading the article?

And really BEFORE this gets off track, as it seems to be already, this thread isnt about whether or not Lil Wayne is or isnt "guilty" of anything, its about how QUIET THE NRA is about this.

Something tells me if it was Willie nelson and his manager had a registered gun on the tour bus, NRA would be at his side.

Just my observation though

?

I am talking specifically about right to carry laws extending between states in case you missed it buddy.

I live in big pro-gun state and this is hot topic at the moment. It has nothing to do with gun "possession" and actually about carry permits extending past state borders.

And besides this isnt some "regular gun posssession charge" this is HUGE news, Lil Wayne is bigger than maybe you want to admit.

The bottom line is this:

The gun was registered, it was legal, there was no crime committed with the weapon, it was for protection and was registered to licensed right to carry owner. Lil Wayne was not holding the gun, it was in a bag that belonged to someone else etc...

its not illogical to wonder why the NRA has remained silent on this case.

LMAO
OK, here's the LAW
If a guy holds up a liquior store and then does his time, he's a convicted felon
If he gets a girl friend and she buys a gun, do you think it's legal for her to keep it in his night stand?
Wayne was trying to get around the law to have a gun on his bus and was busted, not because he was black, because he thought he was above the law and an idiot

He's a black rapper who is a convicted felon. I think he is also facing drug charges in another state. Not a NRA poster boy

"the night of Lil Wayne's first headlining concert in New York. NYPD pulled over the rapper's tour bus at about 11:30pm, at which point a Louis Vuitton bag was allegedly tossed from the bus. It contained a handgun"

According to lead prosecutor, Joan Illuzzi-Orbon, gun possession can take two forms: "actual possession" or "dominion and control". Whereas "actual possession" means someone owns and carries the gun, "dominion and control" means that the weapon is available for immediate use, such as on a tour bus. "[In this case] we said it was dominion and control," Illuzzi-Orbon told MTV News. That is, Lil Wayne's "attempted gun possession" plea is a concession that the gun might not have been in the rapper's hand, but that it was on the bus and thus within his "control".

the bigger problem here is that this is NY, the same state that just handed a 2 year sentence to a guy that shot himself in the foot.

Legal or not legal black or white NY City is not a good place to carry if you do not have a permit, they now are giving these mandatory sentences out like crazy.

Its fucked because if there is any place where every law abiding citizen should be allowed to carry it should be NY.

But here is another thing, the NRA is a business like any other "non" for profit, you really think the rich white donors from the south want to see the NRA defend a black guy a rapper? some people cant get over the race thing just yet

Oh bullshit if the NRA could have it's way EVERYONE would be able to have a gun. Hell they are against background checks. If you are for preventing felons from having a gun then how can you be against a background check to see if someone is a felon?

I know jack shit about guns and gun laws this but if what you are saying is true, but logically shouldn't it be the idiot that bought it, registered it and left it in the wrong place that should be charged with something?

So he's guilty because he's a felon and someone bought a gun and left it near where he happened to be? Doesn't make any sense to me.

when your convicted of a felony, you have to know if there are guns on your tour bus, the fact that they threw the gun out the window says they knew it, they knew they were breaking the law!
The NRA knows like most that the politicians are about just getting rid of guns, instead of taking guns from felons, they go after those that legally own them, they keep passing bills that go after those that are legal guns owners and do nothing to take guns from those that will use them against YOU!

the NRA is for white gun owners...

charlton heston was president for many years and the movie that brought him fame, planet of the apes was really about if the blacks were in charge of the planet..

"get your hands off me you damn dirty ape" was actually supposed to be "get your hands off me you damn dirty n i g g e r", but it was edited out after jesse jackson complained to the naacp...

During the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom held in Washington, D.C. in 1963, he accompanied Martin Luther King Jr. In later speeches, Heston said he helped the civil rights cause "long before Hollywood found it fashionable

Heston made a lot of movies, one of my favorites was Omega Man, second version of the film I Am Legend which was the 3rd version that Wil Smith did
