Also, if you judge an entire industry by a handful of people who post on a board then you are assuming that those who post on these boards are representative of everyone in the industry. You wouldn't like it if someone said that a nutcase like McVeigh was representative of everyone who served in the military or that the one guy at a Tea Party rally carrying a sign that says, "Lynch Obama" is representative of the entire movement. There are many MANY people in this business who have never so much as read this board and don't care to. They are working day in and day out and are more representative of who and what type of person this industry is made up of than a few people who have opinions and hang out here as a way to pass the time maybe do a little business. In my life I have been involved in three major industries. First, was the music business. I wrote for a music magazine for a number of years and that exposed me to everything from little unknown bands all the way up to the huge, world famous acts. I got to know record label execs, agents, musicians, writers, publicists, promoters etc. That industry is the most corrupt, scum filled industry I have ever seen. It seems like it is full of people who are just dying to figure out a way to take advantage of each other to make a buck. Then I moved on to the high tech industry and worked for a major company. While it isn't as scummy, it is filled with some not-so-great people. It is like a lot of industries where people's primary goal is to get a good job and then not lose it. They back-stab each other, they cover their own asses and withhold information so that they can hopefully be more valuable to the company than their co-workers. I guess that is human nature, but it seemed to me like it was a bunch of people who were always looking to make sure they got to hang onto their job and not necessarily looking to help the company move ahead. The adult industry has some scumbags in it. Mostly, however, they come in the form of scammers. They are people who open up programs, make money then screw over affiliates or they double bill customers, over cross-sell customers or try to milk customers for more money. They are really no different than the mainstream internet business. Have you ever looked into that. You go to join a membership based site that is mainstream and most of them try to cross sell you and up-sell you on a million products. They offer you trials that often rebill in the hundreds of dollars and then they sell your email account and information to a ton of other places so you become inundated with spam. Hell, even buying something from a place like Amazon.com is that way. They want to add all kinds of stuff to your order and if you aren't careful you will end up with a lot more than you bargained for. Never mind the sites that install various spyware on your computer as soon as you visit them. The difference is we sell pics and movies of naked people having sex while the mainstream people sell other items. This somehow makes their actions forgivable and ours scummy. I won't deny that there are slimy people in this business that try to convince women to do things they wouldn't normally do. I won't say that there are not a decent number of scumbags, there are. Hell, 10 years ago anyone could get into this business and make decent money hardly working and with little or no start up money. That kind of promise will attract people who may not be the best human beings on the planet. But in my experience, most of the people I deal with are good people who are just running a business. They are ethical and just want to provide a good product/service for their customers What I am saying is that you seem to be generalizing about an entire industry and I get the feeling you actually know very little or nothing about it beyond what you see here or see in TV spots or articles that tend to profile one person. You say you find the lack of intelligence in this place standard for the industry. I would ask you what you really know about this industry? |
