Who wants to go parachuting?

There's a parachute school/club here in Gimli and I want to try a jump sometime in July

it's $300.

6 hour course and they let you jump by yourself the first time. $60 a jump after that

My brother is coming with me - we've both always wanted to try this.


Anyone else want to come to Gimli for a visit in July and go parachuting?

Been there and done that...but instead of paying to do it...I was paid for doing it. None the less...AIRBORNE!

i have never heard of a place that will allow you to jump alone your first time, some places make you jump like 10 tandum times first. Probably to make sure you dont panic.

they do it here - they pull your chute for you when you leave the plane.

I don't think they pull your ripcord...I think you are talking about a static line jump and not a free fall jump.

What you're doing is called a first jump. There's no free fall involved and you miss most of the experience. If you're just going to do one jump and not continue the experience, you should really do a Tandum jump. There is weight restrictions on that though.

You do not have a sense of falling...unless you have a reference...such as watching the aircraft you just exited from or jumping along side a mountain...etc. ect. Looking at the ground does not give you a sense of falling...it simply looks as if the ground is getting closer...coming up to meet you.

No. If it is not a free fall you do not have air rushing past you anyhow. The most surprising thing one will experience on a static line jump is the amazing silence once your parachute opens.

Well to be fair, most people do a tandem jump before a "first jump".

The first jump is pretty fun but it's nothing like free falling. Where I did my first jump(s), we would hang from the wing struts and the instructor is actually sitting in the struts with your pilot chute in his hand. You let go, he drops the chute behind you.

After completing a successful first jump you can do the AFF Accelerated Free Fall (sometimes called Progressive Free Fall) jumps. They take you up to about 10,000 feet and you jump from the plane with two instructors literally holding on to you. They help to position you during free fall and hold you in the proper arch and all of that good stuff. After a fairly brief freefall one of the instructors deploys the chute and they let go of you. You pass a series of I think 10-12 jumps and then you're certified. The jumps start fairly expensive as you need two instructors, but after about half of them you're down to a single instructor. The jumps get higher and the free falls longer. By the end of your series of jumps the instructor is basically just hanging out with you in the air to make sure everything goes good.

Anyway, skydiving is the best feeling their is. Nothing else beats it.

I was Airborne Infantry for 12 years...ass hole...and I have over a hundred static line jumps and have made multiple HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) jumps...in other words free falls.

Nope ... it's to avoid the splatting.

I went parasailing in Mexico a few times, was up for 5 mins at about 200-300 feet, that's about as high as I want to go with a parachute. :D And with parasailing you get the going up effect as well as the coming down.

Actually I've considered doing a jump but I think I'd prefer the tandem jump the first time, for the free-fall action, but like you I'm too big and tall for it.
