![]() Most of us have become so used to suppressing noise that we don't think much about what we're hearing, or about how we listen. Yet our well-being is now being seriously damaged by modern sound. Here are 10 things about sound and health that you may not know:
Very interesting information... http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/10/1...ex.html?hpt=C1 |

Sorry, nothing new, but I was a sonar tech on a submarine in the Navy, thats what I did, study sound.
We listened underwater, it was the eyes of the submarine, once you get a couple hundred feet below the surface, you can't see shit, but once you get under the convergence layer, you can hear things hundreds of miles away because of the way sound travels, which is not in a stright line. Sound actually travels faster underwater than above. Deeper in the water, the faster the sound travels. I could listen to a ship, look up the records and tell you the name of the ship, which way it's headed and how far from the boat is was. The coolest part of the job was listening to the biologic's, Whales, Dolphins, even shrimp, noisy little critters. Last time I got my ears checked, they told me my hearing was still way above normal for my age.

Sorry, but I've been a guitar player for over thirty years.
Ampeg VT-22, Marshall JCM-800, and now my lowly Fender Hot Rod Deville. All glorious noisemakers. My favourite amp is still the little Pignose, but this Hot Rod Deville is a nasty fuck. And its still big enough to kill anything that walks in front of it. I clicked on your link, saw the old bald dude, and thought "Fuck this". |

I'm pretty sure I've lost a good percentage of my hearing firing guns without protection(sometimes), attending many loud metal concerts in the 80's, and working on the flight line at a naval air base. An sr71 blackbird taking off will go right through your earmuffs.

Um... not convinced this guy knows what he's talking about...

Sounds pretty ridiculous, and his experience is anecdotal yet he speaks like an expert and writes books on sound. Noise can cause stress and stress kills for sure, but most of the rest he's babbling about sounds like bunk.
