BARF was all anyone called it then Remember I was dealing with pugs so it wasn't exactly like we were trying to get them out hunting and running and such. Just a little more effort to get back on the sofa after eating

Mine have been on NutroMax for years. Works for me but I know pug people who swear BARF I think bottom line you have to stick with and follow the precautions. You can't get sloppy.

BTW, I'm ordering more stuff in the next few days. Things are working great "there" so I won't be eating it as fast as I should. I do love it!

There are specialty bowls you can buy that are designed to help them slow down their eating, especially with kibble because they can get bloated fast when throwing it down their throats that quickly, but my dog expert go to says that she just adds water to their bowls and it does the same thing. Slows down there gobbling and helps them avoid the bloating.

As for what people feed their dogs I was amazed that most people feed their dogs FAR too much food. My friend is a breeder and a trainer and has two golden labs of her own and they only eat 2 cups of kibble a day, once in the morning, once in the evening and thats it. These dogs are HUGE too (meaning healthy and muscly). Cheaper dog foods you have to feed them more because they are not getting enough out of them. Go with the good stuff and you will not have to use as much and you will save money over all even because of that.

My friend alternates between Acana Grain Free and Orijen, all canadian made so not sure if they have the equivalent where you are at, but heres the website anyway.

I've read that dogs need vegetables if you have them on a raw meat diet....reason being, wild dogs eat the stomachs and intestines of their kills. The stomach and intestines usually have plants in different stages of digestion. Plus wild dogs also do munch on some plants. Hence, an all meat diet in the confines of a back yard will not give them all of the nutrition that they need.

My problem with my dogs has always been that they are thin. Of course, with me working out of the house I spend alot of time with them. We go for walks and they get to run on these. We probably cover 15 to 20 miles per week. Then there's all the playing time in the yard, chasing balls, tugging with pull toys, etc. I tried blackwood 7000 and it didn't even work. My adult dog is a decent sized German Shepherd and the vet says he's built like a professional athlete. At his height he should be around 85 pounds, but he stays in the 60 to 70 pound range.

I agree, but it depends a lot on how well the food is digested, too. My 15lb rat terrier eats two meals of 6oz each a day. More on active days, less on lazy days. She's pretty good about only eating when she's hungry.

Depending on the type of dog he is, he is most likely giving you gifts thanking you for the food. Its his work for pay.

One of mine will kill anything that moves. Dead bird a few days ago. dead possum a few before that, He Destroyed a Tarantula one night.

I go to Surrey Meat Packers. They have ground meat with bone in (and even meat with veggie in too). I get 50lb freezer packs of bone-in ground chicken, frozen into 1lb bricks, for $1.50 / lb. Eggs, yogurt, veggie, you should have around anyway. Liver and kidney you can usually get fairly cheap from a regular supermarket BUT cruise the butcher shops because they have offcuts often. Trimmings from your own food are obviously free (chicken backs & necks, etc)

If you want to go meat-based kibble food like Wellness, Blue Buffalo, or Orijen, then the prices can go up rapidly.

I jumped on the bandwagon too My dog and one of my cats are getting the Natures Variety raw now. My other cat is a food snob and won't eat it

Buster, my pooch, does the same thing with the 1.5 second scarfing down of his meals.

I use the Nature's Variety as a topping to his regular food, and its great for training because he loves it so much. But its too expensive to use it exclusively as a meal. Is that the same type of stuff as Primal?

Same thing as Primal.

I was feeding my animals that crap from the vet which was not exactly cheap so switching over to the Natures Variety really isn't much more expensive per month for me.

I tell ya what though, it has only been a couple of weeks but, I am already seeing some changes. My cat used to have dandruff and shed like crazy. Her dandruff is gone and today when I brushed her, I hardly got anything off of her. My dog doesn't smell like 'dog' so much either.

They should be having smaller poops, too Less filler in the food and all that jazz. I find the smell and the lesser poops are awesome benefits lol
