I have not seen season 1 yet, did they start the show with John in it?

I really liked last season and found myself watching even the repeats every other day, this season seems not as strong and at times all over the map.

They need a new antagonist for the next season. This one has been leading up to something, ad she's been prominent enough in this one that doing away with her, or having her busted an imprisoned in the finale makes sense...
