Does anyone know how to go about running a contest for your website im wanting to run one but dont know how to go about it thanks

It depends on what kind of contest you want to have. You'll have to give details of how you want it to work. If there's some programming required, it'll depend on what your hosting accepts. Theres a lot to it.
