if i lived in the netherlands like you i wouldnt have a problem protecting my house and family with a 2 foot waterbong knowing most likley due to the strict gun laws and not so strict drug laws that anyone trying to harm me would probably be packing a heroin syringe or a crack pipe..but here in the usa things are different its not about being tough its about being prepared:winkwink:

actually its rough all over i live in a quiet beach town and theres home invasions, armed robberies and drug related deaths within 20 miles of my house on a daily basis..pretty much like the rest of the united states ...so relocate to where? arizona? columbine colorado? maybe live on an military base in texas? or how about i just dig a hole and hide in it ?

BlackCrayon 01-11-2011 07:21 AM

guns kept for 'protection' are more likely to be used against a family member than an intruder. its a fact. look it up.

Domain Diva 01-11-2011 07:22 AM

Stats.....:Oh crap

The rate of firearm deaths among children under age 15 is far higher in the United States than in 25 other industrialized countries combined.

More 10- to 19-year-olds in the USA die from gunshot wounds than from any other cause except motor vehicle accidents.

More Children in the USA are Killed by Firearms in One Year than Three Years of American Soliders in Iraq.. :(

Just my own preference...I prefer a country with very strict gun controls...

They dont have stats on how many crimes and deaths would be committed in the usa if guns were illegal and only available to criminals do they?

Do you know how many people dont commit crimes just for the simple fact they know they might get shot and killed in the proccess? i dont ..but im sure if they took a poll it would be pretty high:2 cents:

* Based on survey data from a 2000 study published in the Journal of Quantitative Criminology, U.S. civilians use guns to defend themselves and others from crime at least 989,883 times per year

* A 1994 survey conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that Americans use guns to frighten away intruders who are breaking into their homes about 498,000 times per year

* A 1982 survey of male felons in 11 state prisons dispersed across the U.S. found:

? 34% had been "scared off, shot at, wounded, or captured by an armed victim"

? 40% had decided not to commit a crime because they "knew or believed that the victim was carrying a gun"

? 69% personally knew other criminals who had been "scared off, shot at, wounded, or captured by an armed victim"

But you still have one of the highest crime rates in the world ( except South Africa etc ) and also one of the highest murder rates so im not sure if gun ownership actually deters or reduces crime ?

└ Harm vs. Benefit

* In D.C. v Heller, the 2008 Supreme Court ruling striking down Washington's D.C.'s handgun ban, Justice Stephen Breyer authored a dissenting opinion that was joined by Justices John Paul Stevens, David Souter, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The opinion states:

First, consider the facts as the legislature saw them when it adopted the District statute. As stated by the local council committee that recommended its adoption, the major substantive goal of the District's handgun restriction is "to reduce the potentiality for gun-related crimes and gun-related deaths from occurring within the District of Columbia." ...

... [A]ccording to the committee, "[f]or every intruder stopped by a homeowner with a firearm, there are 4 gun-related accidents within the home."[128]

* This committee report cites no source or evidence for this statistic.[129]

* A 1994 survey conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that Americans use guns to frighten away intruders who are breaking into their homes about 498,000 times per year.[130]

* According to the CDC, there were about 18,498 gun-related accidents that resulted in death or an emergency room visit during 2001[131] (the earliest year such data is available from the CDC[132]). This is roughly 27 times lower than the CDC's 1994 estimate for the number of times Americans use guns to frighten away intruders who are breaking into their homes.[133]

thats because we also have the most shit to steal.

there are more cars in the usa than any other country
more home ownership than any other country
more tvs playstations jewlery coins and valuables than any other country
more food, alcohol and available drugs than any other country
more gangs, convicted felons, sexual predators and mentally ill people than any other country
and more foriengers coming to the usa illegally to achieve all of the above by any means necessary than any other country

simply put :the USA has more of the things people commit crimes over than any other country...so having the highest crime rate than any other country should be expected ... no?

i never said it made anyone more american or cool..

hypothetical question:

You awake in the middle of the nite to the sounds of somone breaking into your house.what do you do?

1.call 911 and hope the police ..who have guns come to your aid in time?
2.grab your gun and then call 911 and let the chips fall where they lay?
3.hide under you blanket and hope all they want is your money and valuables and not the inside of your browneye?

most likley you would choose option number 1..and the only reason the police can actually help you in that situation is because they have guns..because here in the USA the flashing lights and screams of "freeze" dont mean shit unless theres a gun to back it up :winkwink:

It's because of people like you that make others feel unsafe... and I don't blame them...

First of all, if someone is breaking into your house? They don't have a gun... why? they can't afford to buy stuff thats why they are stealing it!! Secondly, if he had a gun... he wouldn't bother breaking into a house... he would rob someone in the street or a store or something like that.. why? MORE MONEY IN THAT! What's he going to take in a house? a big screen tv thats worth 150 (probably less) on the open market these days? yeah right...

I call scenarios like this a gun nuts wet dream... it never happens but its there for them to jerk off to on a whim...

Gun ownership isn't wrong... its the fact how easy it is to buy in your country that scares people... Our laws up here in Canada kind of suck, but at least we don't have to worry about mentally challenged citizens being able to buy this stuff at walmart any time they want...

Looks to me you have been living under a rock for to long dea.

No offense, but america has the most home owners? Bahaha, yeah.. right.
More foreigners coming in? Lol, have you ever been to europe bro?
Available drugs? You have got to be kidding man.

I love america, i hope to move their one day. I cant wait to go on another holiday there. But dude, you have some weird image of america.

Highest crime rate? Maybe. Maybe if you couldnt buy a gun at the grocery store, there wouldnt be so many shootings.

Anyways, stats will show that you are pretty wrong about all those statements. But have fun slinging a gun around.

And then what. He would be a one-man army?

If im walking into someones field wielding a gun, im bound to get shot. If i walk in there with a smile he might think im just a nice guy.

NO

Kinda hard to buy drugs, but that don't stop them.

spazlabz 01-11-2011 09:01 AM

I have no problem with my fellow Americans owning guns legally if they wish... More power to you DEA, enjoy them. Guns can be a rush and a lot of fun to fuck around with safely.

Having said that I live in rural Kentucky. I do not worry about home invasion at all now as opposed to when I lived in Florida and it was a very real concern. I do not own any firearms nor do I want to even though I have training with them and know how to use them in a safe way. In my earlier years my temper kept me from owning any and now I lack the desire to dump that kind of cash into them.

Phoenix 01-11-2011 09:03 AM

america is not likely to ever be invaded..lol

the citizens have more guns then the army

bla bla bla....

czech republic has very liberal gun laws but still only a few people buy them and no one i ever heard of carries.

and even though people seem to be sometimes scared of "eastern europe" (watch too much Hostel, huh?), you can see girls run around alone and drunk at 4 am. and guess what? nothing happens.

it's not about guns or not - it's about culture. and while i admire the american culture for many things, i think there are also some things that incredibly suck and do not fit a developed, western society.

why im even responding to your post is beyond me.

according to you...criminals with guns dont rob houses they only jack people on the street or in stores because theres nothing worth of value in a house ..so no need for a gun at home?:1orglaugh guess what i got guns at home and in my car..so i got both covered:winkwink:

when a guy stalks a woman and enters her house to rape her..does he not have a gun?..no because hes there for pussy and probably only brought a knife..so no need for that woman to own a gun to protect herself..wait according to you ... that shit never happens only in gun nuts wet dreasm lol :error

The broke ass guy who dont own a gun who robs houses because theres nothing worth of value in them that they can take...like jewlery, money, creidt cards, ipods, laptops ,cars or your kids underwear for his next hit of crack or heroin fix isnt to be feared because he dont have a gun..so the homeowner doesnt need one either..just a telephone and a baseball bat should hopfully do the trick??

would you rather protect your home ,wife and kids with a gun or a hockey stick agaisnt a drug addict with no gun ?...oh canada?

and as far as somone with a gun NOT entering your home to do harm to you or your family or just plain rob you...guess what it happens every day here in the USA and i personally know of a friend who lost there life to someone who broke into there house and had a gun ..and his wife almost lost her life as well..thankfully she had a gun and shot the intruder dead...too bad her husband wasnt so lucky.

i cant belive i just wasted 10 minutes responding to your silly post:Oh crap

Ok I could go with the concept of having a small hand gun at home for personal protection but it seems more than that , in many cases I see people owning like 3 glocks ..a couple of sub machine guns...sniper rifle with telescopic sights , 4000 rounds of ammo etc and it wouldnt surprise me if they also owned a few anti tank missile launchers .....do they really need all that stuff if they live in lower Manhattan for example? :upsidedow or anywhere for that matter !

do you need more than 1 tv?
more than 1 car?

more than 1 telephone in your house?
more than 1 mirror in your house?
more than 1 color of nail polish or eye shade?

more than 1 plate spoon knife and fork?

technically no all you need is one but we live in a world of excess and convienence..why would or should guns be an exception to that:helpme
