unless you have some sick custom crazy pc you will probably get a couple hundred dollars out of it. last time i checked you can't get an imac for that, not even refurbished.

that being said, i only use mac. 33 and never owned a pc.

If you need the features of both then its best to invest and have both. Mac is great for designers but its hard to get programs and scripts for them so I would do both in that case.

This is really an old wives tale. Our entire company has exclusively used macs for a decade...designers, editorial staff, accounting, developers. Check our site and you will see our developers aren't having any problems.

yes it is... since mac went with the UNIX kernel scripting and such is a breeze.. the old wives tales about design and the arts comes from that community being mac based, not that mac is better.

just so fucking hard to deal with macs when you don't have one...spent hours and hours trying to get windows files understood by post houses out here in LA.

the macies always tell me mac will accept any windows files.. I find that not be true with the caveat of "it's so easy you just buy/download/get this 'app' and it will convert it right away"

yeah I had to do an editing job on a mac.. was a total nightmare. not that mac or PC is better just so different in fundamental ways.. like file trees and the way apps open and close etc... I use my machines for work only. for me to replace really fast 3 quad cores with 12gig ram would cost me 15K with the new apps needed... plus the time i would need to re organize my work flow. just not cost beneficial to me... I very seldom have issues with PC other than adobe products.

I dumped Windows 2 years ago and bought a Mac Pro system, an iMac and a Macbook Pro. One of the best decisions I've ever made. In fact, I should have done it years before.

Not saying that Mac is perfect for everyone. Only that it's perfect for me

Do this :

By an iMac 27". You'll fucking love it.

Install it right beside your PC, and then set up your mac with the same software you have on your PC (Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc) to make your Mac more and more usable for your business.

You still start using your Mac more and more, and your PC less and less. For any emergency jobs you have to do you can still use your PC of course (zero learning curve), but otherwise use your mac.

One day you'll forget to turn on your PC... and on that day, you will smile.

Me, as a designer, i dont give a shit, i just love MAC more bcs they are QUIET Just one thing that bothers me why the fuck on MAC Photoschop has no background panel and everyting is visible behind it?

Open Photoshop, at the top go to Window > Application Frame and make sure it's checked. Now you have a background. Unless you are working with an older version of PS

I even sold my old processor for $300.

So $200 is way to cheap.

haven't you posted about this before? I just KNOW I've posted in one of your threads like this before.

PROS: Nice gui on top of unix, command line, plus photoshop and other programs you won't find on a unix workstation. Can still run windows in virtulbox/etc if you need to. Better quality hardware than most windows laptops.

Cons: none imho.

go to every production house in hollywood - all video editing and photoshop and creative is done on mac... 100 percent. Since the earliest days of AVID to present I have never once seen any creative projects being done on a PC in any production house I have worked at or visited...not one...that pretty much says it all.
