1) Gas £1000 ($1600) a year
2) Electricity £1000 ($1600) a year
3) Council tax?? £1500 ($2400) a year
4) Internet £100 ($160) a year
5) tv £150 a year ($240)
6) food for 4 Depends on how much you eat? We feed 2 plus 2 children for £600 ($900) a month at least
7) public transport ( bus? ) monthly pass Never used a bus, only scum bags and smelly people go on busses
8) chinese/indian/sushi eating out, depends on how much you eat, but you can get away with £60-£100 for 4 without wine and eat decent enough
9) Small car 5 year old ( like Vauxhall ) cost and insurance Depends how much rust it has
10) Bottle of beer in the pub? £3.20 ($4.80)
Now you know why I live in Czech.

Some things are but it depends on your circumstances as to if they matter.

Gas for example is more expensive than the US but, if like most webmasters you aren't commuting it makes little difference.

It really just depends on what you need each day.

Grocery in the UK is on par with the US price wise. Eating out is generally cheaper because you don't have to tip 20%.

There is no monthly medical payment (its part of National insurance contributions).

Having lived in both countries I was amazed at how good the US seemed when I got here but, after a while you realize that its very similar regarding gross and taxed salary.

What you can't get around though.....the houses are way smaller and the weather inclement at best ;)

So far I have figured out housing J450-J600pcm for 3 bedroom house.

What about:

1) Gas
2) Electricity
3) Council tax??
4) Internet
5) tv
6) food for 4
7) public transport ( bus? ) monthly pass
8) chinese/indian/sushi eating out
9) Small car 5 year old ( like Vauxhall ) cost and insurance
10) Bottle of beer

You name it what I missed

Thank'Ya!
1) Gas - £50 or more per month
2) Electricity - £50 or more per month
3) Council tax?? - depends on size of house
4) Internet - about £10 for phone line and £15 for net on top. But you can find lots of deals. Thats per month.
5) tv - £120 a year or somthing. More if you want sky or whatever.
6) food for 4 - Depends on the shop. I would say at least £10 per day.
7) public transport ( bus? ) monthly pass - Bus is about £2.350 pd. Its cheaper to buy a car.
8) chinese/indian/sushi eating out - Abouit £10 per person.
9) Small car 5 year old ( like Vauxhall ) cost and insurance - About £800 I would say 2nd hand. Insurance is about £200 or more a year. Plus road fund (£100 or more a year). Fuel is expensive too.Plus MOT each year £30 not inc parts.
10) Bottle of beer - I do not drink, but cans seem cheap from supermarkets.

Trains are expensive.

Its about £80 per person for a return from Leeds to London.

Its cheaper to rent a car for a day, including fuel.

Also London is far more expensive than most places.

Left England when I was 21 -- haven't looked back. I was head hunted for a job running the PPC campaigns for an online bookies earlier this year. They offered me 100k GBP + bonuses. Wasn't enough to move back.

Thanks, this explains a lot. Since we're 4 it takes to calculate bus routs vs buying a used car.

And car rental price would be $100 a day + gas?

Locally, this is how a member of a local parliament behaves in bar, then he escapes to Russia but they get him to return back, but i'm sure he will go free as nothing had happened.

if you buy a train ticket you do not buy a return, you buy seperate, ie the travel to, then the travel back as daft as it sounds its cheaper.

But you can rent a car for £40 or so, and if its not a big car fuel will be about £40.

Plus your not having to get taxi's or buses at each end.

Also after 11pm or somthing daft, trains are no longer in use.

Even Leeds to York on the train is about £10. It costs me in my car to drive that about £2 in fuel.

If you plan on short trips a push bike is a good idea.

The BIG problem with a lot of towns is they are now full of speed cameras so you could find you get fines if you get the speed wrong.

Its nice and warm in the South.

I like essex.

London to me is just too busy.

Some love London, but I just find it too much. If I worked in London, I would live outside such as essex and get the train in or just have a moped.

By the way, a cheap option on fuel is get a deasel and simply use cooking oil. A lot dop this now.

If you do not earn a lot you get housing benafit.

for many people stay on benafits as its no point going to work.

the best thing to do in the uk is to claim benafits unless your going to be well paid.

if your a girl you have as many kids as you can as kids = cash + a free big house.
