The thing that gets me is that trying to stop 'bad guys' getting guns and ammo is not even on the table.

Make it harder and fewer people will be killed - I do not know the stats but there is a percentage of opportunistic crimes and crimes of passion/anger that just would not have happened if the person had not had a gun handy.

Even if the US is not ready for a ban, make it as hard as possible for the wrong people to get them.

It will be on the table where it should be. In Washington. And odds are good there will be some positive changes in the gun laws here. No one needs an assault weapon. It's not on the table because there is too much money in gun lobby. This isn't about "rights" it's about big money cooperations making fuck loads of cash. I had mine out during the LA riots after the armed guard of my apartment building got beat up and his revolver stolen from him.

The laws that get pushed thru take a long time, time enough for the manufacturers to make changes to their guns to keep from being banned. As far as ammo, most murders are with a .38 and they are easily reloaded in the garage. .22's are second. Way down the list are assault style weapons.
