How do you suggest reaching young males of a certain demographic? The product being sold is "National Guard" or active duty "Army" while a war is going on. It's actually well spent advertising money when looking at the narrow demographic it's intended for.

The point of this thread is the wasteful example on the part of the agency that collects our tax dollars. Wasteful spending across the board is a problem everyone is aware of. Wasteful spending by the revenue collecting branch of our government is a real bad example when trying to keep the rest of us honest and tax paying.

The article shows just how fucked up the IRS is, not only is it spending money that it's not even carefully keeping track of, 4 million for one conference? But it's targeting by it's own admission, several conservative groups and publicly displaying the people that are contributing to them.

Now the NSA is tracking all our telephone usage. Who called who and thanks to GPS, where were they when they called.

Who are the idiots that think this is a good idea?

Four million dollars for one conference? That does sound like a lot, doesn't it?

But what did that four million dollars buy exactly? Did that include lodging, food, transportation, and plane flights? Did it also include a daily expense per diem? For how many people?

I don't mean to be defending the IRS, but it seems to me like we are rushing to judgement without knowing any facts.

But that's misleading. Did the IRS "target" only "conservative groups"? No. The IRS routinely identifies groups or types of non profit organizations for special scrutiny. My wife is involved in a local non profit, and they've been fighting a four year battle with the IRS trying to prove that they are in fact a non profit organization. In fact, all of the other non profits my wife works with has been going through the same problems - It's pretty obvious the IRS is looking very closely at these specific non profits.

YOU - and others - see this as the IRS intentionally targeting a political group. I see this is routine business for the IRS. With the sudden increase of such "tea party groups", it only makes sense the IRS would give them additional scrutiny.

Frankly, I'm against any such groups. All they do is secretly funnel money into political campaign chests.

The NSA (and most likely the CIA) has been targeting Americans overseas for ages. US citizens do not have the same rights outside of the USA. What the NSA and CIA does outside of the US... Doesn't break American laws.

If they are doing it inside the USA - which I think might be the case - I am sure that is going to be a huge issue.

However, it seems this is something controlled by the Senate Defense Committee, and is also routine. I found it interesting that both sides stood up and took the heat today and claimed this was a "necessary evil".

they made short movies about Gilligan's island and Star Trek with IRS people as the actors and had rooms some costing as much as 3,500 a night. All the time while they haven't upgraded their computers to match up with the computers that are going to used for Obamacare

Well that could be true with the exception that they admitted to targeting conservative groups

Where was the outrage when the IRS targeted liberals?...

STORY HERE

Under George W. Bush, it went after the NAACP, Greenpeace and even a liberal church.

Then everything is okay!

What a relief to know that Obama's administration is doing exactly what George Bush did.

Wait, that's what I've been complaining about since he took office.

They are ALL crooks!

The govt. shouldn't be spending "one thin dime" (as Obama likes to say in every speech) of taxpayer money on ANYTHING except the bare essentials of what the govt. is tasked to do.

They should NOT be getting a "bonus" in their "pay", they should not be sitting in expensive offices, and they damn sure shouldn't be holding "conferences" (every person in the world knows that "conferences" are big parties in every line of business).

They are supposed to work for the people and are paid via our tax dollars. Not one penny more than what is absolutely necessary should EVER be spent by the govt.

Meanwhile...Obama told us that the "sequester" was going to destroy us (you know raising spending levels this year just a little less than the amount they wanted to raise them...even though they are still spending MORE this year than last).

What was it that Obama said in that speech a couple of months ago?
Here it is:
"You don't want to have to choose between, `let's see, do I close funding for the disabled kid, or the poor kid? Do I close this Navy shipyard or some other one?'" Obama said. "You can't gloss over the pain and the impact it's going to have on the economy."

Meanwhile the IRS is spending money on fucking parties and learning the dance moves to the "Cupid Shuffle"?

The govt. is out of control. They are all crooks and spending money that they did not earn (our money) like drunken sailors.

Funny you should bring up the NAACP

May 14, 2013
(WASHINGTON, DC) ? The NAACP has released the following statement in response to news reports that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) allegedly targeted conservative organizations seeking tax-exempt status for additional scrutiny.

?As an organization targeted by the IRS under the last Bush Administration, we know all too well the capacity for the IRS to abuse its power and the chilling impact that can have,? stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. ?The recent allegations of bias, if true, cannot be tolerated in a free society.?

?We are pleased that the President has acknowledged the need for a full and comprehensive investigation,? continued Jealous. ?If abuse is uncovered, the responsible parties must be held ?fully accountable? for their actions. The IRS plays a critical role in our society and must not engage in political discrimination.?

In 2004, the NAACP was the target of a two-year probe into its tax-exempt status by the IRS after then-chairman Julian Bond criticized on President George W. Bush. The NAACP retained its tax-exempt status at the conclusion of the investigation.

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest nonpartisan civil rights organization. Its members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities. You can read more about the NAACP?s work and our five ?Game Changer? issue areas here.

It's sad that the IRS has the ridiculous budget that they do. $12 billion of our tax dollars wasted on collecting our tax dollars.

Meanwhile the only group that lost their tax exempt status was a progressive one. Imagine that. And none of them were stopped from doing all their activities and they wouldn't have to expose their donors but then they would of had to pay taxes. So what was more important, their cause or getting tax free money?

Yes, they made training video. Every company and every government agency does. These were utterly dumb and expensive.

Yes, some of them stayed in very nice rooms. I'm guessing the IRS didn't pay $3k a night for those rooms. I'm guessing they were free - part of the package. Rent out the hotel for a convention, you get ALL the rooms.

LOL, so you are telling me that a progressive group didn't follow the rules, lost their status while the conservative groups that followed the rules were denied the tax exempt status, thanx Tony for proving the point!

And the donors that you speak of were made public, that's the job of the IRS? NO

Little note, you should read where the NAACP is against what the IRS is doing to the progressive groups!!!!!!!

im surprised anyone else is surprised by this. the US government has a 3+ trillion dollar budget. It is the largest institution in the world, by far.

and anyone who knows wealthy people know they live in a bubble. this is especially true of people who never earned their wealth.

so why is it surprising that bureaucrats who never created the wealth they manage, would be so proliferate in their spending?

duh.
