:2cents Anyone Know About iPhone Repair?

I have a buddy that has just asked me to go into business with him repairing peoples iPhone's, id basically setup his website, take the booking for repairs and he does the work.

Anyone know if this is a profitable venture to be a part of? I'm always seeing people on Facebook and Craigslist asking about this type of shit but never really paid any thought to it until yesterday when he asked if id be interested.

Anyone know about this, either after having your iPhone repaired by such a service or, by doing iPhone repair yourself?

I would guess the majority of orders would be to repair broken screens and that type of shit?

Friends son broke his screen, walked into local Apple store and 15 minutes later walked out with a brand new phone for $100. That kind of service might be hard to beat in turn around time, cost and hardware upgrade.

Our local Apple store is on the Southside of Jacksonville, I know from where I live it takes a good 45 minutes to an hour to get there with normal traffic, that doesn't take into account rush hour and weekend traffic.

$100 though for a cracked screen, that seems like if the volume is there (people being to lazy to travel to the local store) it could be at least somewhat profitable, did he have some kind of maintenance contract with Apple?

From what I understand he has all of the equipment and stuff to do repairs on hand, I think he told me a while back a new 'screen pack' cost him like $25 each and he is charging about $75 to repair a cracked screen right now.

I realize we couldn't possibly compete with Apple in terms of what they offer service wise (replacing entire phone) but I wonder just how large the local market is with people too lazy to get to the store or wanting it done 'now' that they would pay $75 for someone to come to them and repair it?

Right now I am seriously thinking about investing a few hours to throw him a simple site together and see how it goes, worse case scenario nobody calls and I wasted a couple of hours on a simple site, best case is, he gets a ton more business and I take a cut of the revenues.

The local mall here has a "iPhone repair" kiosk. They charge $70 to replace your screen.

We know the guy who runs it well.

Sounds like a "treading water" at best business.

How long has he been doing it? Think it would be a venture worth pursuing if all that would be involved on my part is building a website and forwarding emails?

Yeah that is actually my major concern, he's been doing this a couple of years (that I know of) and always has cash in his pocket.

At the same time, I am sure there are fresh people every day that bust their iPhones LOL

what kind of business do you suggest?

On an aside I think, why not design it and book the appointments...every business experience whether it fails or succeeds is good for something.

As with any other business, timing is everything.... If you're the first guy offering a local fix, you can make it work. But if there is already an apple store and several other options in your area it might not be the best idea....

All depends on what you have... I bought the new iPhone 5 from Verizon and if my screen cracked I'd have to buy a brand new device at retail value... I have nothing with Apple on the iPhone so I am sure if I walked into an Apple store I'd have to buy a new iPhone outright also.

Now paying this guy $75 to do it? Fuck yeah.

Honestly, you'd be the type of customer I think this guy already has, just from posting on Craigslist (that's his only way of getting business right now other than word of mouth) so I'm thinking more and more that ill probably take a chance with this as I would imagine local searches for iPhone repair services should be up there.

I took a look at Craigslist a little while back and only saw maybe 2/3 different people posting about this type of service and they seemed kind of sketchy too, maybe a website with full contact information and a registered company would lend some further legitimacy to the business to draw in more clients.

Thanks for everyone's feedback so far on this I really appreciate the help and advice

I wont use a store. they have employees and for the most part are tards. I had an iphone turned into a brick at a store before and the lady just looked at me after handing it back to me and said "I didn't do that to the phone and you still have to pay"

The craigs guy I got my phone fixed at last time had a site...he had pickup service.
I asked why would I trust a guy off of craigs with a $500 phone..he said "Cause I have a website, I am totally legit" lol well of course not for me but for 90% of people yeah he would be.
I still dropped off the phone at his place.
But honestly if you linked to the site a facebook page and got a couple hundred "likes" plus showing who you are like a pic or your own facebook profile I am sure it would do well.
people want testominials too especially if they have local addresses

Just goto the apple store, and buy 2 more...

Then you have both a replacement... AND a spare...

What a way to skim customer data. If it is not done in front of me, no thanks.

But he doesn't do Samsung repairs, wouldn't that kind of be pointless?
