The third of seven children, La?Darious Wylie was protective of his siblings. The 11-year-old proved how much when he gave his life for his little sister Sha?Vonta, 7, as a car sped at them while they were waiting at their bus stop in Chester, S.C., at around 7:30 a.m. last Tuesday. Seeing the vehicle headed toward them, La?Darious lunged, pushed his sister out of the way, and received the full impact of the crash ? which ?several? other children waiting at the stop witnessed, according to a local news report.

?He knew to look out for her,? his mother, Elizabeth McCrorey, told The Herald of her 4-foot-tall, 75-pound hero, who died the following day of his injuries from the accident.

The driver, Michelle Johnson, however, didn?t look out for anyone. She reportedly sped off before Sha?Vonta had even gotten up from the ground. Two days later, Johnson, 57, was charged with felony hit and run and now faces up to 25 years in prison. When she posted her $25,000 bond on Friday, she said nothing to explain or defend herself. ?I don?t know how that person can sleep at night knowing they hit a child,? family cousin Kimberly Robinson told The Herald.

Unanswered questions don?t haunt La?Darious?s mom, though. ?I don?t hate her,? McCrorey explained. ?I just wish she had stopped.? The mother is focused now on just moving forward and honoring her beloved son, for whom a funeral was held on Thursday of this week. ?She donated his organs [so that] her son could save another child?s life,? Robinson wrote on a GoFundMe memorial page that she set up for the McCroreys.

I have 3 kids, I spent a good bit of time as a single mother. I have never used day care, I have never had a babysitter that wasn't immediate family, I have never left them at a bus stop alone.

I either found jobs that worked around my kids, or made sure adult family could be around to help with my kids.

Well where I live the bus comes right to our house...I think that's true of everyone at my daughters school.

For instance the bus came to my house and then literally stopped right next door when a boy went there for a few years instead of combining houses.

yeah, this...

i walked to school all by myself from 1st class on - your parents walked with you the first 2-3 times so you knew where the school is and how traffic lights work etc and after that you were on your own. At 6 years old. And I think it was about 1 mile from home to my school.

You're a boy, it's different, and my experiences growing up were different, and perhaps that's why I've never left my girls alone with people I don't know or left them walk places alone, and why I got the heck out of Philadelphia and made a job where I made sure that would never have to happen.

I sat with my husband last night remembering the several the times I was approached by perverted men growing up in Philadelphia, the times I was flashed, followed home, even propositioned at just 10 years old outside of the corner store by a creepy fat guy in a station wagon to "look at his pee pee" for $20.00, sitting in sex crimes unit looking at photographs. I could have been kidnapped literally at least 8 times that I can remember by pervy men. Easily.

I'd rather shelter my kids a bit and have them forever then have them end up like Autumn Pasquale in a garbage bin behind two boys houses for her bicycle parts, or dead like this boy and living as a mother with the "what if".
