the better ads standard took place in december 2017.

we applied to this rules already in october 2017 and made them even a bit harder.
monthly revenue today is about 200% from what it was before.

the new thing is that chrome have now an own adblocker includet and this blocker works in parts with easylist and other blocklists but also with an own logic.

I assume that the goal for them is to eliminate tools like ABP what are blocking all an everything just because it is an ad.

actually ABP´s business is to destroy other businesses and the one and only reason why nobody could go against that is, that there was no standard for ads.

the coalition for better ads was founded to have such a standard to sue in the next step this companies that are blocking standardized ads.
so no - Google is not interested to fuck any ad revenue - it is actually what they are living from. what they are doing is to bring advertising back to advertising.
and the result of that is

1. less clicks
2. higher quality of clicks because they were made on purpose
3. higher CPCs
4. more returning happy users to the sites
5. returning users are more confident users and following the recommendation power of
a trusted site.
6. sending less people from the side with just accident clicks
7, cleaning the market from unprofessional advertisers and keep the professionals
that have a clue HOW to make more profit and pay more for advertising.

every farseeing network and site owner should be happy for what Google does here.

well - when chrome blocks they will realize it.

if you ever have seen such a site you know what i am talking about. it is not only that ads not work and will be invisible after a while - no target _blank link on such a site will open and ranking is effected too.

there are not that many real adnetworks out there.
90% of what you see is working with RTB and do not market a single site.

as soon as websites are blocked from chrome because of bad ads delivered through RTB it will also damage the "good networks". one reason why i have never used this crap.

so it is as simple as that: they can not survive - and this will change a lot.

This isn't first time chrome blocking pops, they being doing that for ages with only difference how they are more aggressive against it now. Some networks does not do know to do it by any other way beside that one. And also, top tube sites still run pops so as long they running it it should be fine.

i am not sure if you have ever seen such a blocked site.

it is not that pops getting blocked - EVERY target blank link gets blocked on such a page - including banner ads and even links to other sites.

Chrome does also not only block because of pops. they are blocking also when they find annoying banners with blinks, fakechats, fake distance, using fake closing buttons or fake system symbols, warning signs or simply a chose button (like yes/no) that have no other function as executing the click.

they also do not complain a popunder - what they are complaining is the way how such a popunder is opened without purpose (click in empty spaces etc).

i would say 90% of the banners that have been used for CPM to catch the click in any circumstance are not compliant and can lead to a GENERAL block of target blank links on this page.

not the networks placing the ads - the advertisers do it.

depend on the network how far they go.

there are also networks that let publishers choose if they want aggressive or not.

you can not talk about "THE networks" there are so many different networks out there and not all working with the same philosophie.

at the end of the day publishers want to make money, advertisers want to make money and networks want to make money. a good network takes care that all this is in a healthy balance.

We've just updated our ad scripts to help publishers with Popunders to comply with the Google standards and this will help them in the future if Google gets stricter.

It all seems kinda Aldous Huxley to me. Yes, some sites suck and have annoying adverts on them. I don't bookmark bad sites and return to them. I don't really need Google deciding what is "good" for me and it just seems like a really slippery slope before Global Better Ads Standards becomes Google decides what human knowledge is okay.

I have one site where the front page is flagged for supposed shocking content, but, of course, it is Google, so I have no idea what they are shocked by or what to remove if I wanted to comply and, of course, it is Google, so there is nobody to ask.

first of all you need to understand that google the search engine is not chrome the browser from Google.

if users wanting a browser that takes care annoying ads they are free to use it or not. they even can stop chrome from blocking such ads.

that sounds strange to me and I do not know any flag like that.
i have heard that in regards to embedded youtube videos and on sites that are using Google adsense but not on a site without that.

I am also not sure if you have your site in webmaster tools because there you would find any information and you would be able to contact them.
unfortunately many webmasters are still thinking that it is not good to have an account in Google and miss all this information about their site.
