Malware removal question

sonofafuckingbitch got me again - an image hosting site - so now I'm running SuperAntiSpyware and it recommends doing a full scan on all Fixed Drives - I have 2 500 GB drives in my pc - one is just photo content, like 200 gigs of nothing but jpegs - do I really have to scan that drive? Malware doesn't attach itself to jpegs does it? I'm nowhere close to finishing the scan on my main drive and it's already over an hour.

So you think I can bypass scanning the secondary internal drive that has nothing but jpegs on it?

so far i have 28 items connected to Vundo - a rootkit agent - three trojans unknown origin - trojan FakeAlert - a change to boot sector of disk - yay for malware!!!

how do you get all that malware again and again?
just by visiting an image hosting site, sounds kinda unlikely

sounds like you need to get a better real time protection than what you're using now

anyway, maybe someone else will answer your question if you need to scan everyhing, but rootkits are dangerous

even after this scan with superantispyware, you should try scanning again with another program, for example malwarebytes

Malwarebytes comes next - and then Combifix - that usually is enough.

i use AVG - it is useless as far as real time protection goes. The reason I get this shit is because I use IE6 out of habit alot of the time. And yes I definitely got it from an image hosting site, probably not from the site itself but there were some shady looking popups and popunders.

2 hours so far on the C: drive - i think scanning the rest is pointless but i will let it finish and skip the second drive.

I haven't had a virus in forever since Vista. And I don't even use an anti virus. I scan once a week online with kaspersky and it never finds a thing.

well I'd definitely upgrade to IE7 or firefox

I know that being used to something is important for some, I'm uisng win xp with the "classic windows" look from years ago, but with security I wouldn't risk

I caught that FakeAlert one time on my desktop, I'm assuming that's the one where you constantly get the popup that says your computer is infected and to buy some overpriced virus scanner. I also got it from an image host site, and the worst part is no matter how many times I scanned and removed it, it would keep coming back as soon as I restarted. I eventually had to do a system restore to remove it...

yeah that's what that is - i bet they've made millions with that scam. Pisses me off that nobody in law enforcement ever does shit about this, it wouldn't be that hard to trace who's behind that bogus overpriced virus scanner operation.

if that isnt' clear, someone

1. infects your pc
2. gives you fake alerts about viruses that you don't have
3. asks you to pay them for an antivirus no one heard of - then its obvious that it's not an antivirus, you're just paying and getting some bs software that is probably used to infect you even more

they go under diferent names, like "antiwirus 2008, 2009 etc" and use a lot of domains

i was gonna post one but every time i do now the girl ends up getting found out by friends just by the photos I post on GFY so i thought better of it. I have to wait now until the girl actually does a real shoot and is prepared to be found out.

my sister is a moron, she knows nothing about computers, all she does is go on the Net to get her favorite TV shows like Grays Anatomy and email etc - every other day she calls with some shit on her computer. Last time it cost her 200 dollars to get some Geek Squad type service over to rescue her computer.
