I just lost part of the screen on my laptop and the vga port is also fried. Is there a cable I can get from Amazon that will allow me to from usb to the vga connector on the monitor?

Can anyone give me the link to the cable I need? It's hard for me to do anything the way my screen is right now.

if the Svideo on your video card is fucked up I don't think u can jump from usb to vga .......

Nothing wrong with the svideo. It's the screen itself that is fucked. If I push in on the top of the screen it works fine but I have to hold it in. I've been running it through an outside monitor but now the vga port is loose.

Take the rest of the night off and pull the drive tomorrow and put it in an external usb case.

Damn, $50. I was hoping for something much cheaper. They have several on amazon that are priced much lower and I have a $25 credit there, but I'm not sure if they are the same theing. Anything that says vga to usb should work?

Bear in mind that a USB to VGA "converter" is probably more like a VGA card with a USB connection, so you'll need specific drivers for it. Do you have a PC or Mac?

If pushing on the screen makes it work like you say, it could just be a loose connector. Since it's fried anyway, crack it open and look for the tiny flat ribbon cable coming from the screen to the main laptop. I bet it wiggled out a little bit.

edit: when I say crack it open, I mean carefully disassemble it.

Problem is I don't have a spare computer to get online with while I work on it.

Well, only do this if you are very confident you can. But usually you can remove the little bezel around the keyboard, exposing some screws that hold down the keyboard assembly itself. Under there you should be able to see the ribbon cable for the LCD.

You can probably find a tech manual for that laptop somewhere on line. I found this http://ahwee.com/how-to-disassemble-laptop-insp6400 but you should be able to find something for your exact model if that doesn't work.
