He would have been legal for president well before the 1930's... in 1855, 1907 you only had to return and take an oath. Before that if you were a women, you didn't pass your citizenship rights down, only men did....

Pre-current times, it was very easy to be a legal "natural" born citizen of America... Much easier than today.

Do you understand how CoB work? None of have an original, we all have copies. We can request them from the local "COURTS" in the area we were born in, to get a copy, and they certify it as being an original.

Like my CoB, is a copy that we ordered from the local court house were I was born - because I didn't have a copy. After I proved who I was, they sent me a certified copy of the original along with photo scans for my backup records.

I mentioned the 1930's for one reason but you are right the changing of the "definition" of "citizen" began as far as I can tell with Lincoln and the "freeing of the slaves."
