How does it feel to leave in a place where you feel you must own a gun to protect yourself.

I don't feel I must, but I do like the fact that I have the "right" to protect myself. Btw where this happened they DO NOT have the right to own guns, yet.... hmm an 18 year old had an ak47. So... umm how does that support the "gun control" crowds views again? I know the 18 year old is deeply involved in the underground crime syndicate right? If you ban guns and an 18 year old can get an ak47 somethin aint working. Weren't they on their way to banning knives as well since the amount of homicides by knife have gotten out of control? Some people will never get it.

I thought you were talking about Kingston, Jamaica at first.

But article says Kingston, Surrey - don't know where that that is.

Got to love exaggeration. The police will jump up and down on your head over here for relatively small amounts of cannabis and a semi-automatic pistol != an ak47

There is no right to own a gun but you can have a shotgun if you have got a licence for it to use for sport or vermin control. Unfortunately burglars don't count as vermin

A firearms certificate for something like a rifle is a lot harder to get. Not sure about automatic weapons.

Knives are restricted to folding pocket ones like a swiss army knife or if you have a good reason to be carrying it like you are fishing or a carpet fitter on your way to and from a job.

Kingston, Surrey is south west London, UK.

Probably a slap on the wrist and a free x-box if any of the usual hysterical newspaper stories are anything to go by.

Illegal firearm possession carries a 5 year minimum sentence but I don't know how flexible the 'minimum' is.

We have the right to protect ourselves up here in Canada, but don't seem to have the issue with gun crime like you do down in the USA. The issue isn't people having guns, it's people who have no clue how to handle guns having them in the US. It isn't a criminal vs citizen scenario.

And I have to disagree with you on the '18yr old getting an ak47 so it ain't working' comment. If they had a whole bunch of 18yr olds getting ak47s, then I'd agree, but one guy getting his hands on an assault rifle is an anomaly, not an epidemic.

Why don't you compare the urban population of the United States vs Canada. Why don't you look at the statistics, less than 1% of gun crimes are committed by registered gun owners. This may startle you, BUT CRIMINALS WHO COMMIT GUN CRIMES GET GUNS ILLEGALLY.

It has nothing to do with registered gun owners not knowing how to "handle" guns. Outlaw guns and guess who will still have guns, the criminals.

This happen at local highschool near my town last month.

"The AK-47 was found in the trunk of his car. In the passenger part of his car we found two high-capacity magazines and they were both loaded with high-velocity rounds."

I think I read somewhere that more children die in the USA from gun accidents than in any other G8 Country.....cant remember the exact facts......but this is one of them .

"Three children per day, on average, died in accidental handgun incidents in the United States from 2000 to 2005, the last year for which data were available. "

I prefer a gun free zone personally .....

In India the gun crime is often in the wrong hands which is the corrupt police. They are all pulling out their AK47's, Glock and one guy at the back has a shoulder pad rocket launcher pointing at this innocent passer by who simply took a cherry from a neighbours tree. Also a fully armed tank, helicopter and state-of-the-art heavy combat fighter planes were dispatched to kill the innocent man.

You can hear the Indian Police chanting "KILL THAT MOTHER FUCKER FOR STEALING THE CHERRY!"

I'm not really against gun ownership, but I don't care for the "right to protect myself" argument anymore.

It has been proven that without constant professional training, your ability to use the gun in a high stress situation is severely diminished - often to the point where you might as well not even have the gun. This has been proven using police officers as test subjects.

This also explains why gang members have such bad marksmanship when shooting at each other, even at close distances.

The fact is, if someone robbing you is armed and you pull a gun, that 100% guarantees that shots will be fired between the two of you and who knows what happens keeping in mind the above. Whereas if you just give up your wallet, the chances of him shooting are very slim.

The "give up your wallet" part is why in society more and more people are arming themselves up.

this has nothing to do with gun laws, you cant bring guns on campus in America either. Gun laws in America forbid the same exact thing. Oh wait i forgot, gun lovers want to bring their guns to parks and childrens school....

at least compare apples to apples and talk urban per capita stats. here are 5 year old stats, but things have not changed that much in 5 years...

# 34 United States: 0.808 per capita 2005
# 37 Canada: 0.801 per capita 2005

Here is a nice article about high rates of gun ownership and lax gun laws in some US States from last year - http://www.commondreams.org/newswire/2009/05/06-1

It never ceases to amaze me that people add 2+2, end up with the answer 'potato' and think they're right.

This may startle you, but having a country with gun owners who know how to properly use, maintain and store their firearms is not a bad thing. No shit, registered gun owners aren't the ones committing the crimes. Where do you think the criminals are getting the guns from? They aren't planting them in the yard and growing crops of them.

The moment you make any comment about gun control, a lot of American gun owners automatically assume people want to take their guns away and that the criminals are going to kick in their door, assrape their prize poodle and spray paint a cock on their plasma TV.

Please explain to me what is so bad about forcing people to learn to use a gun before allowing them to own one? Do you honestly think people who are properly trained how to use the weapons they own are going to be *less* effective against someone attempting to commit a crime against them?

Get real, 99% of guns that criminals use to commit crimes are black market guns. They were never once registered guns. They were smuggled here the same as most the drugs are. WHAT A SHOCKER!!!!!!

You find statistics that are small a percentage of accidents and you make assainine statements that all gun owners don't know how to properly store firearms. I've owned guns for almost a decade, so do a ton of people I know. Guess what? None of them have ever had an incident.

HAHAHA, is that a joke? Compare the total population, compare how many large cities are in Canada vs the United States. Nice job of quoting a random statistic that has nothing to do with anything. If you want to compare statistics in an entire NATION, then try to quote statistics from a reliable source that correlate to your fucking argument.

Post a reliable source, they are an advocacy for gun control. That's like going to a vegetarian blog and quoting some random statistics about the startling cases of ecoli contamination in beef.

We are allowed to own Guns in the UK by the way for sport and hunting. We just need a licence for them, and when you apply it is the local authorities responsibility to prove/state why you should not be allowed guns, not the other way around.

Plain and simple, you're nothing short of a fucking retard if you think more Americans properly purchase and store their firearms than don't. Know what a straw purchase is? look it up.

I'm thrilled that you have owned guns for more than a decade and you know a few friends who also do. And gosh, none of them ever had an incident? Well Christ on a cracker, your 5 buddies with hunting rifles certainly make up a huge portion of the country's population.

HAHAHA, is that a joke? Try comparing per capita like a person that has a bit more than rocks in his head. Give me your reliable source genius. All I see here is you pulling 'facts' out of your ass because you own guns and you're all butthurt because I brought up gun control..
