If a domain expired 5 days ago, when is it available to buy?

I've had my eye on a domain and it expired Feb 15th. But everytime I look it up in godaddy its not available to buy.

when will it become available? or is there another service I can use to grab it?

I'd like to know who can successfully let a domain expire and not have it picked up by some spam page?

Chances are it's already pre-ordered by someone running one those shits.

This is more so in the ball park. Although it seems to vary to some degree based on registrar. Good luck.

it depends if the prior registrant decides to recover the name during the grace period & make sure to figure out which registrar has priority on it. use that registrar to backorder the domain if possible. good luck-

Be on the look out 35-50 days after expire, and keep an eagle eye on it when it goes into pending delete.

Tip: Do NOT visit the domain. Moniker.com will automatically register the domain the SECOND it is available (they have a deal with the registrars and you can't beat it). They will "taste" the domain to see if it gets any traffic and if it does will keep it.

So don't be that traffic. Don't visit the domain and 7 days after they register it, they will release it (to get their money back) and you can register it.

Use whois on your shell to see when it's available. If you visit the domain, Moniker will keep it and you're f--cked.

I used to manage a portfolio of 49,000 domains.

30 - 60 days depends on the registrar policy.

If you have been watching it, perhaps you should have just made the owner an offer. also keep in mind the previous owner can still get his domain back for a fee during the 60 day redemption period.

Last I heard "domain tasting" was no longer allowed.

try to figure out where it may be up for auction before it actually drops, chances are if it is any good of a domain, someone will get it in auction before it is ever dropped

the owner might not be getting emails or hes getting a million spam emails and the domain renewal is lost in them

a old trick that works with those who dont have auto renew (with a valid CC) if say some shlep has a good name i.e. abc.com and his email is [email protected], sign the fucker up to a zillion different offers, join a few cam sites with his email and everything you can, chances are he will get so bombed with shit that he wont notice the domain renewals either. this wont work if someone uses their .com for their email as they will notice they cant get emails anymore once the name goes into the redemption period and they will renew it, but sometimes for a good domain everything is worth a try.

obviously this isnt a moral way of doing things but hey its up to you.

Domain tasting is now basically history and has been since August 2009.... stop spreading FUD.

Domains will go into RGP (Registry Grace Period) on the 45th day after expiration date. There is another 30 days in RGP for the former owner to restore the domain from the registry. If not restored, the domain will go into Pending Delete status and drop on the 5th day of PD. Registrars can delete or renew a domain any time after expiration. www.SnapNames.com is the best place to place a back order on domains that are about to expire or expiring.

CamperJohn - Moniker does NOT register expired domains and taste them, we do not register our customer's domains but our customers do register domains as soon as they are deleted and they do use Whois Privacy which has our privacy information on the whois records.

Bari Meyerson can assist any of you with how to back order or register newly deleted domains using our API if you are interested.
