So I bought the Avatar blu-ray and watched it for the first time!

I missed it in the theaters in 3D so I got the blu-ray now. And to be honest, in 2D, the movie isn't any special. I didn't even watch more than a hour of it yesterday, I was bored and it made me so tired, I went to bed. I will have to finish it today, but from what I saw, I do not understand whats so special about it. I guess its only the 3d effects.

It's a little slow in the beginning, it gets better deeper into the flick... it's 3 hours long

it's like any movie with much hype people go into it expecting the spectacular.. Don't think that just watch it for the story and of course the effects...

Its definitely one of those movies where seeing it in the theater would make a difference on how you feel about it.

I saw it in 2D and I was impressed.
It's not about the effects, I liked the whole thing.

I'm watching it at 120'' and a pro sound system at home, so the theatre atmosphere is there, just no 3D.

I watched it in 2D not 3D and I thought it was a wicked film all round.
Goes on my top 10 list for me.

Don't very often find films of almost 3 hours that keep my attention but this sure did!

To really appreciate the movie you need to understand how it was made.

Once you grasp that, go watch an old movie like the original King Kong and see just how
far movie making has come.

I agree the story line is just average but it's the visual effects that make the movie and it's process will pave the way for future films.

Was gonna buy the blu-ray the other day but didn't bother. The dvd is cheap as hell, but i'd probably end up buying it, and not even watch it, like many dvds i have here...

Does your BluRay player chug when you first put it in? Mine does... and then once it hits the menu it's fine. It's very strange as it's the only movie it does that with.

I saw it in 3D without hearing the hype. The bar was set low and it clearly surpassed my expectations.

I thought the 2D wouldn't be worth it - but I'm pretty impressed with it, too. BluRay and surround sound are key... as well as having the ability to suspend disbelief and possessing a passion for the fantastical.

I didn't notice, but it takes a while until I get the menu screen. Even though blu-ray players are much slower compared to DVD players, this movie somehow loads even slower.

I saw it in 3D and yeah the effects are cool but the story is repeated, we've seen it in other movies. Anyway, I think it is a better movie than "The Hurt Locker" and it should have been the one winning the Oscar.

Mine makes these weird noises... like it's reorganizing it's internal parts to play the darn thing. And yep, it takes a long time to get to the menu screen - stays on black forever. I thought it was a bad disk at first. Was going to take it back. Good thing I walked away from the TV for a while, cursing and swearing. It eventually came around...

My point being that one shouldn't have to appreciate how anything is made.. if its not interesting and not original it's not a good film. I wouldn't call it terrible, but its as 'genius' as waterworld was. If you want innovation check out Jurassic Park, that changed a lot of things in film making today--No 3d necessary.

I saw Avatar in Bluray with the upgraded firmware feature. It looked like it was in 3d, without 3d glasses.

Yeah, the story was OK, nothing too special, but to get the full effect of the movie you should see it at the IMAX theater

You can appreciate films, their stories, their art from different angles. Some people really like clothing so they appreciate cool costumes, and that adds to the overall appeal of two hours spent watching a film. I like the movie making process so the details of how a movie is made CAN be essential to how much I enjoy it.

Avatar IS genius... it's just not your flavor of it.

I make documentary films.

Because of my experience I have an appreciation when looking at someone else's work. I understand what they had to do to get that shot or sequence, the time it took to edit and so on.

Disney is coming out with a new movie called OCEANS. I don't think blah, it's just another nature flick. I look at the shots taken of sea life under the ice at one of the poles and I have a true appreciation for the people and the work that went into getting that shot.

I find it sad when someone's hard work isn't taken into consideration.

The movie is great. I saw it in 3d and it blew my mind. Next time I saw it was at home without the 3d and the movie went from EPIC! to Wow, pretty damn good! The 3D did make it that much better for me at least anyway.

Saw it twice in the theater in 3D, it was pretty rad and there were a few 3D elements that gave it a little extra WOW facture but I could see it being just as good in 2D

That's a good idea... I just figured I didn't need the update cuz it still plays, but those noises it makes just aren't natural. hehe

I was about to get it -- would be the first dvd I've bought in years --but I noticed there are no extras. I'll wait until November for the serious Blu Ray release.

I rented it from the vid store, and thought the movie doesn't hold up the way it did in the Imax 3d. But, its the crispest looking Bluray picture I've seen so far.

I think I'm one of the few that hated it...can't even tell you why I just didn't find it remotely enjoyable.

I fell asleep in the theater mid way, so its not just you man... The movie is down right boring in the beginning and the action is near the end.

Over all i was very disappointed in this movie. Its nothing but a sheep herd movie with a ton of graphics.

Its a RIPOFF of Pocahontas ... James Cameron Ripped off an old fuckin Disney cartoon and made millions. Laaaaaaaame!

Ok, I just watched it to the end now. Wow, it really sucked! I was just going to say it looked like a regular Disney movie when I saw the above post. lol

This is a very bad signal for the movie industry, now hollywood will care even less about stories, as it wouldn't be bad enough already. Now it will be all about effects and graphics in every movie and the plots will be just as retarded as this one.

I cried when the hero, Colonel Duke Nukem died. I hate those blue hippy terrorists.

Thats another thing. The movie didn't wake up any emotions in me. When the blue "indians" lost their home, I didn't care a bit, it didn't do anything to me. And I'm a pussy when it comes to movies, but this one just didn't touch me.

I still can't believe I bought the disk. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The story is so simple and dumb, I can't believe how anyone older than 12 can enjoy it. So predictable and boring, not one shocking or interresting moment in the whole movie. And this beeing the biggest money maker makes me think this planet already reached its low when it comes to intelligence.
