I don't know why people keep expecting there to be "affiliates" at shows... Why would an affiliate want to go to a show? The very fact that program owners/reps want affiliates at shows would scare an affiliate away

Affiliates do not like being spammed at, online or in real life.

I will go to a show if I have business to do, but I do not go out of my way to create the business just to attend the show. Once I do that business the rest of the time I attempt to relax. The AVN Miami show was great because the hotel was great, soft beds, great food and location - and lots of locals to connect with outside the show. It was probably the best party/relax location we had, that still allowed for decent business.

Business wise, other than last show, the rest had the same people year after year and even different shows. The same people that visited the west coast already. If you visit more than a few shows a year, it isn't hard to figure out which shows you should drop.

If you want to get business done you hit the Forum and the Expo's. If you want to party, hang with friends, get lucky on business if it happens to fall in your lap, then anv, xbiz, etc is your flavor.

Robbie, the Venus show is quite fun. It is getting smaller year-after-year, but the liberties that show surpasses pretty much anything thrown on the US soil the last few years.

One company had a stage doing live strip dances with the girls being allowed to use dildo's, etc. One girl took out a pair of silver metal beadballs from her pussy and put them in the guy she brought up on stage's mouth , I got video of it

Freeone's of course had their massive booth out there with an arsenal of hotties doing stripteases and shows. We won't discuss the video I have of a certain incident Roald put me in

Even attendee's were wearing very little clothing. It is what a porn consumer show should be, and its a shame the US shows cannot put on the same and show hardcore video even when the attendance is 21+ requirements.

How does the meeting go? Is it like this?:

Pornographer Two: "I have porn too"

Pornographer One: "Want to do a x-sell with my porn for your porn?"

Pornographer Two: "Yes"

Pornographer One: "GREAT meeting! Let's go buy an overpriced drink!"

Pornographer Two: "Sounds good because there aren't any sponsor parties anymore, and I have ten more meetings to go to"

Just seems like it's a lot funner to do it over a whore and a drink.
That is great

Paul does this mean that your content is not worth buying and your affiliate program is not worth promoting? You have been spamming and advertising both for years, looking for new buyers and new affiliates. Obviously if your content is so great and your pay site so awesome, you would never need to spam your deals.

No?

A few rare products sell themselves and people get rich. The rest of the rich folk had marketers.

You guys misunderstood my sheep comment.

There are people out there that will believe anything they read on a chat board. They will sometimes base their business decisions and show attendance on the rantings and mob mentality. It's unfortunate because that pool of potential attendees for this or ANY show can be poisoned, and that sucks.

If you went to the AVN Show and tried hard to find business, and thought it sucked, well then yeah, your opinion matters and you are completely justified.

If you went to the show, bitched and whined the whole time and hung with the same 3 or 4 people and didn't really try to meet new people, well, then not so much.

If you didn't go at all, and are just taking pot shots at AVN and going off "what you heard" well then that's just weak.

I'm sure there will be a way for my words to be twisted around again and potshots taken at me for YNOT and Cybernet and whatever.

Bottom line is this... The AVN Show was not overly crowded, but it was good for business and fun. I networked with a ton of people and plan on closing several deals.

And in the final analysis, that's all that really matters.

But the Cybernet show is a good one. I would recommend it when you are ready to push your next project.

In offline stuff i've never got instant results from a trade show. We always came away not really knowing if it was a complete waste of time sales wise but generally will have found someone purchasing wise you never knew existed that just about gives a reason for going.

Then 3 months later you can get a phone call that justifies everything

yeah, too bad the Venus show will probably die a painful death this and next year. most of the B2B exhibitors will move to a strict B2B show called Erofame which will happen at the same time but a few kilometers away. i'm afraid the rest of the show will be so small that next year also the foreign exhibitors who don't know anything about that yet will not come back once they see that they are more or less alone in the B2B area

When I began in this industry a short 5 years ago my show schedule was 4 to 5 shows a year with all of them being in the U.S. I attended the shows for two simple reasons...

to secure new affiliates for our webcam product Secretfriends and to perpetuate our company brand AlmightyContent. A pure and simple business approach?

Between 2006 and 2008 I attended 13 shows from coast to coast hosted by 5 different organizations. Each offered something new and different with plenty of buyers and sellers attending.

Then I noticed the big shift in show attendees in 2009 with the major difference being that fewer and fewer affiliates were attending... no matter what the reason. If you take away the affiliates from a show then you might as well take away the companies that are there specifically attending to do business with affiliates... and what do you have left???

I have discussed this with two of the major show promoters and asked why there are no shows geared towards attracting a large number of affiliates and I can't seem to get a clear answer as to why. Based on my research, an average of one third of the attendees at mainstream affiliate marketing conventions are affiliates with plenty of business for everyone!

Bottom line I think that all show promoters would serve themselves best by continuing to listen to those like myself that want to attend as many of the industry shows as possible but cannot justify so due to the lack of potential customers. I know that it is nearly impossible to design a show that would accommodate the needs of everyone in this industry but I still feel most are trying to do so with less and less luck

Maybe the answer is simply make the shows smaller and more targeted then look at going to a regional schedule. As many stated there are webmasters dying to pull themselves away from the monitor for a few days to attend a friendly, fun and affordable webmaster gathering. Just my

Not sure if I could agree. I think erofame will take over the B2B part slowly over the years and Venus itself will remain popular for consumers in the weekend, which is their cashcow.

there will be nothing anymore that consumers can look at - just a few toy dealer. Fundorado and Partnercash cancelled, those 2 already had 1/3 of the first hall. Orion was already gone last year. Beate Uhse used to have a big show booth - not anymore.

http://www.venus-berlin.com/en/box/3...p=fachbesucher

have a look yourself, the only big show booths that are left are live-strip.com and freeones

you see any big DVD companies? Marc Dorcel & Pleasure maybe - that's it.

and trust me - consumers will be really disappointed this year, thats why i said the real problem will be next year. also i don't believe that the consumers are the real cashcows - when 50% of the hall space remain empty they are missing out on a few 100k Euro in revenue. that has to hurt.

i have been through a couple discussions about this with a dozen companies who used to exhibit at Venus and i kind of feel bad for the Venus organizers. but not listening to your clients is what makes this happen.

a lot of affiliates need to readjust their premadonna attitudes for the new space that we all live in. more than ever it's a 50-50 road and if they don't see that, they're setting themselves up for failure, or have failed already. in that case they are non applicable anyhow, because their new title is Fry Chef and not affiliate.

The year before other big ones stopped exhibiting already, like magma, videorama and other giants in Europe

have a look yourself, the only big show booths that are left are live-strip.com and freeones
For consumers, those sites would be good to have there for sure.

you see any big DVD companies? Marc Dorcel & Pleasure maybe - that's it.
Pleasure=Beate Ushe, not sure why they would attend both shows, since they initiated the 2nd show erofame

They will have less hall space so people won't notice I guess.

You are right. They didn't listen. Venus send out a long letter recently about that and how they see it. In the end, time will tell...[/QUOTE]

BINGO! I've found that the www.cybernetexpo.com during the summers in San Francisco were perfect, not only for weather, but also for getting business done, having astute and helpful seminars, AND for fabulous partying! Costs/hotel/dining/entertainment/etc were quite reasonable.

After reading through this (sad) thread I'm actually happy that I decided NOT to make the AVN show Mister Peabody's public debut. LOL

Oh - and thanks for Robbie's excellent posts in this thread! MAN do i wish I had started this shit five years earlier. LOL Anyway, sounds like times have changed, and sounds like these shows need TITS.
