Lest we forget, moving all adult sites into adult ghetto proposed as legislation twice

Lest we forget, .XXX will not be voluntary is some people have their ways:

According to the Congressional Research Service records:

In past Congresses, two bills were introduced to require the Department of Commerce to compel ICANN to establish a mandatory top level domain name
(such as .xxx) for material that is deemed ?harmful to minors.? The bills were S. 2426 (109th Congress), which was introduced by Senator Baucus, and S. 2137 (107th Congress), which was introduced by Senator Landrieu.

another thing that sends up major red flags are sites like Amazon, CD Universe etc.
they also sell porn so if eventually adult sites are forced into .xxx are they actually going to force amazon etc into .xxx domains?
if all adult content is eventually rangled into .xxx they would also legally have to place all porn on Amazon etc into .xxx, and how the hell would they do that?
Amazon, CD universe would have to switch all their porn to their .xxx domain but they would LOSE MILLIONS in SEO ranking.
of course everyone will, but my point is this will effect many huge corporations not usually linked to adult.
So in reality Amazon etc should be very concerned about .xxx as well.

Do Celebs have to face the same laws that we do? Sort of.

So for companies like Amazon they will be allowed to have a XXX section on their site or something along those lines.

well said, and in addition, people love to post for a post count, but not willing to write a proposal or even sign a petition.. they will bitch and cry, but when asked to make a statement, they leave it up to everyone else instead of participating

I would like to believe that. Though, how many actually took the time to send their letter to them vs how many are in the industry? It should have been a undeniable landslide, but it wasn't.

We both know the domain vultures and countless webmasters have saliva dripping from their mouths waiting for this to pass.

Wait, has Obama approved this?

Because there's about ten thousand posts on here from 2008 that say he was the better choice for our industry.

The funny part is the domain vultures don't get shit either. They are the ones running around trying to sell webcamtube.co for $1000 like that's some amazing thing. The big boys won't let anyone snag the great domains on any new tld.

I'm sure a lot of people see it as a decision that has already been made and no matter how much individuals protest they won't influence the outcome.

Personally I see petitions as a complete waste of time and just an easy way for people to feel like they have had their say and do nothing of substance.

JFK, you hit the nail on the head. I have literally lost hair (I'm down to just three pieces now) trying to be one of the many posting to motivate all folks on the boards to get serious and post against .xxx on the past ICANN comments forum. Some gfy folks (maybe they just didn't understand or care, or they might have been some of those "secret" folks that aligned with lawley?) actually fought our efforts to help the Adult Internet Community have a voice against .xxx. FRUSTRATING!!!!!

Senator Baucus - Democrat

Senator Landrieu - Democrat

This is why this thread is not getting the attention it should be.

Most of the pornographers on GFY are pro-Democrat because they say that the Republicans are bad for business.

Yet, the sponsors of this bill are both Dems. What gives?

I tend to be a little cynical and proven wrong occasionally; but, I believe that a politician is a politician first and a Democrat/Republican second.

They will play to maximize their voters and donors.

Real smart — force all the adult industry to foreign jurisdictions — these are only proposed US Laws, still to be enacted. If they are enacted, adult says bye bye — they will just lose the tax revenue and guess who will make up the difference?

Haven't you always wanted an offshore corporation?

SFB (shit for brains ...)

Agree with that. Can think of several politicians here that changed party to continue working.

If the Gov came out and really tried to force us to .xxx, it would legitimize our business. IE: Make it legal to produce porn in America. Which is why you know it will always be kicked back.

To get to that point though, the U.S. would have to take over ICANN and that would split the Internet apart.

Adult sales probably account for 2% of Amazon's revenue, they would dump the model altogether before moving to an xxx domain.

if that is true-
2009 revenues at Amazon.com totaled $24.5 billion.

2% = roughly $500 million. I think I might be tempted to hold onto that.

Yes, they might hold onto it somehow.

Maybe create a different website / company with an xxx domain, but they would never cease using amazon.com in favor of amazon.xxx IMO.

Where did you get that? You're the only one in this thread that mentioned it. Quite a stretch don't you think? Read up a little about how bills are passed, and how many bills get introduced that never make it anywhere.

The .xxx domain will provide a place online for adult entertainment providers and their service providers who want to be part of our voluntary self regulatory community.

That's only the first step trust me !

This is both bad and good, considering the international resentment that will be felt if ICANN took this action by itself.

Though I'm wondering how strongly international governments support this bill?

There is nothing to be a defeatist about. Very few came to post against this, and I think that says everything that needs to be said. Xbiz even gave that shit bag a platform to speak. I was STRONGLY opposed to it at first, now I think it may not be such a bad thing because this business is OUT OF CONTROL.

I sent in my letter opposing it, twice. But what I think doesn't matter. This is about money, and when it comes to money all bets are off.

This is clearly bullshit and a hoax!

Its obvious because they are both Democrats and as everyone knows, Democrats would never threaten the porn industry. Thats something only Republicans do.

Hope
Change
