Google EMD algo update

Looks like a lot of EMD's (those with low-quality content/backlink profile) got hit with this algo update.

looks like you are a fag?!

AllAboutCams 09-29-2012 01:32 AM

this should be good

Klen 09-29-2012 01:50 AM

That sucks i see some sites already affected.

VforVendetta 09-29-2012 04:19 AM

the serp for key "cam girls" has been cleaned.
I think all exact matching sites and similar domains with new extensions like .co received a dropped from the google serp

So do you think com extension is still a king?

CyberHustler 09-29-2012 04:34 AM

You're asking in the wrong place. :)

depends...a lot of spammers use this new extensions to have a push on the serp, so i think google give a different value to a new .co/.rs and so on, than a .com. An exact match domain with .com can't have the same value of a .co, then it's necessary see the content of both sites, and the backlinks strategy.

Best-In-BC 09-29-2012 05:45 AM

MY SE is sky rocketing, will will be good for some here too :D

Zeiss 09-29-2012 06:06 AM

Sounds like fun! :D

Denny 09-29-2012 06:31 AM

It seems mostly EMDs with shitty/spammy backlinks are affected. As long as you have quality content and strong backlinks you should be fine.

No shit, Sherlock...

signupdamnit 09-29-2012 07:12 AM

Google has become a bit of a joke. I know of terms where the first and second pages are 100% filled, no exaggeration, every single listing, with a network of scraper tubes from the same group all linking to each other and buying back links.

Sometimes when I do searches mysteriously Google will start returning only a few results for no reason. But if I go to Bing and try it the search will show thousands more results. Or the same if I try it later on Google again it will work as normal. It looks like they are experimenting with some more bullshit even yet.

Where did you get that information from? The vast majority of my EMD niche sites are .net and .org, and I haven't noticed a drop in a single one of them. In fact they have all either maintained or risen. Of course I don't do any unnatural backlinking on them and they all have a minimum of 15 quality posts, which is what I believe this update was targeting, ANY EMD, including .com, with thin content and unnatural linking.

Django 09-29-2012 09:42 AM

#1 in a competitive SERP that I'm working on there's a blogspot with 4, yes 4, embed videos from xhamster and no text.

Intriguing. How many content pages do you have on it?

Kinda hard to believe those stats. Then again I have no clue what term you're ranking for.

That being said I've been backlinking an EMD for a couple of weeks now and it only recently passed 300 UV/day. It has tons of pages indexed in Google and the backlinks are quality. So I'd be really curious to see what you're doing on that one, that I'm missing on mine.

Since the spike is only over the last couple days that could just as easily be a temporary spike while the Google algo works itself out. After both Penguin and Panda there were a shit ton of sites like that with their traffic bouncing up and down for weeks until the algo stabilized. Remember that blogspot blog with no posts that temporarily had the #1 ranking for "make money online" after the last update?

There's evidence sometimes Google almost randomly promotes a site for a period of time as a way to test it so one site doesn't necessarily say much. It has to be a trend and a larger sample.

3xmedia 09-29-2012 10:19 AM

I have a few EDMs (various extensions, they all have 50+ pages of content and legit backlinks) and it seems the only one that got hit by this update is a co.uk EMD that I purchased like 2 months ago. It already ranked #7 for its kw.

Looks like my sologirl EMD blogs took a hit on this so far.

Not sure what other kind of domain I would get for a model other than something with her name in it?

I mean...

I can understand Google going after EMDs in newer extensions - there's probably a higher percentage of spam/thin sites on those than on EMDs in com/net/org, plus IF domain age is a factor of any significance, avg age of the newer exts would be lower than com/net/org. We sell primarily com/net/org EMDs, mostly in mainstream, and our sales have been going up lately.

100% Agree! We had a .net number 1 ranking for a very competitive term. Now its no where to be found.

looks like your only option is to build sites on unrelatedword.com/your-model-name :D

That's what google wants anyways :D
