I don't know who's worse, the dumbass who expects people to believe he paid 200k for a 10k fountain that you fill with a water hose or the kids sucking his cock over it.

Oh, but its so impressive the Governor is going to visit the plant.

i was surprised Minte's fountain cost 200K - but like the rest of you i know jack shit about custom water fountain construction and costs. my guess would have been 50-75K

here's the world's most expensive outdoor water fountains - Dubai Mall, cost $271 million

Civil would be donating all or part of the money in the fountain. Matching the money, well, that's a class act.

As someone that is very familiar with most forms of concrete/stone work. That job could have been done for for 65-75k.
As it stands now I really hope the bottom of that fountain has some kind of sealant work done, because I can see expansion joints in the bottom, which later will lead to cracks and crumbling concrete. Also curious about the deck is that poured concrete or cooldeck?

This is not a fish pond in some ones back yard.

You have a licensed designer on staff to do the renderings for the planning commission presentations. He also had to be at two city council meetings. And then you have a landscape designer to do renderings and presentations at the same meetings. And of course you have a licensed engineer to work with the building inspector to get the building permit. Keep in mind there was no power or water at the site. The water wasn't a huge problem. They had to tunnel about 100' to get to a place in the factory where there was water. The pump is 7.5hp 220v Price that out and then add the disconnects at both ends of nearly 400ft between where there was adequate power in the plant. Now add in the cost of the custom stainless manifold.

The area is low, there was groundwater with 2' of the surface. I can take pictures of the mountain of material they had to remove. It's all still sitting behind the plant.

We had 3 separate companies that specialize in all the areas required to complete a commercial project like this quote the project.

You would've lost your ass on this project.. bigtime.

there is an extruded plastic membrane that was set in the base. After that cured the walls were centered over that and the membrane is tied into the vertical walls. The basin slopes 8" from the walls to the center. The joints were siliconed after the interior walls were sealed. Again, the people that built this does these for cities and commercial customers all over the Midwest. This was why I selected them.

Minte,
I am not trying to piss on your parade or downplay your fountain. The fountain looks nice, btw. But as someone that started pushing wheelbarrows and humping concrete and stone with my pops and uncle, when most kids were playing with friends. I honestly do think you overpaid. I just got tired of sore back, raspberrys/concrete burns, busted knuckles, working at the pace of the concrete.
Just my 2c for whats it worth.

I don't disagree it was pricey. However, there is a lot of extra concrete work they did that was included. First, they removed and replaced nearly 4000 sq feet of sidewalk that leads to the main entrance, and they put in a new 12' w x 120' long sidewalk from the lobby to the staff parking lot.

Before they even could start the fountain, they had 2 men for 2 full days with a bobcat and a dumptruck remove 40 year old yews that filled the 72' diameter circle.

i now see how it cost that much probably would have been cheaper if it was built with the park. not after

So the fountain didn't cost over $200,000 like you said it did. How the fuck does anyone else here know how much work was done elsewhere? You said more than $200,000 and that's what people commented on. We did a fountain for a local city park.

Site prep work plus.
32' across
2 1/2' deep
Real brick exterior and cap over concrete base.
CIM liquid rubber interior coating
1- 3" center nozzle

Site prep work plus.

The price included everything. It was a turnkey project. They planted the trees, shrubs, flowers..even the lawn around the fountain and the lobby area which they poured the new sidewalks. The furniture, the custom stainless planters which are not here yet. They did all the electrical and plumbing. from inside the factory.
And yes, they did a lot of concrete work. Even a portion of the sidewalk around the circle drive was old and beat up. They replaced that also.

I stood around from time to time and watched, took some pictures and wrote out the checks.

Well that sounds more like it. Right after you made the post I contacted another GFY'er and asked wtf? The money just didn't add up and generally speaking someone smart enough to earn 200 grand isn't dumb enough to get taken on a simple fountain.

Sounds like you did a nice exterior facelift on your factory grounds and that's great. Wasn't trying to be a dick but something just didn't make sense.

Take care man.

I would upgrade the center with a large industrial inspired artsy object with water running down over it. You could potentially make it yourself.
