So, a woman being arrested gets belligerent with the cop and the cop has to forcibly put her on the ground. A 160 lb 12 year old boy sees his mom freaking out on the cop and starts hitting the back of the cop. The cop warns the kid that if he doesn't back off he's going to make things worse. The child continues to hit and proceeds to kick the police office in the ass getting a little too close to the gonads. The officer warns the kid again that he's going to use his taser if he keeps it up. If the child keeps it up, what is the police officer supposed to do?

Obviously this isn't what happened here based on the size of the kid alone, but an age is nothing more than an age. You tell me he tasered a 5 year old and yeah, I'm sure I'll agree with you. But a 12 year old? Not necessarily.

That's not really it. We are seeing a portion of a story and everyone here is suddenly an expert on the situation.

First off, South St. Louis is not an area I would want to be in (ranked one of the most dangerous areas in the country.) Second, we have no clue what the kid did, or her mother did. Third, we have no clue what else was going on in the store.

Now if this copper was an asshat after all the details come out, fire him, strip him of any medals and any pensions and any medical benefits.

I don't buy the "she was only 12 years old" argument. 12-year-olds kill. Was this 12-year-old going to kill the copper? Highly unlikely, but acting like a 12-year-old can not pose a threat in a volatile situation is extremely naïve. We might not know the black and white details 100% that's true, but I can think of examples that inform my opinion anyway. Anyone remember the 8 year old girl who had a tantrum in class, the teacher called police and they handcuffed her because she wouldn't obey their commands?

There was a local story where a disabled man was dragged off a city bus and dragged down the street, breaking his hip, and was left in the lockup without medical attention for 14 hours.

So yeah, I believe they would have acted rashly and just tased her because she didn't immediately comply. It's simply not abnormal police behavior in 2013.. it's quite common.

Now on the flip side, I lived in a childrens home at that age and yes there were combative kids. I remember watching a 14 year old kid punch a teacher and knock him out right in the classroom. Was this similar to that? Was she throwing punches or not laying down on her stomach while every instinct in her body told her to try to protect her mother? I don't know the details.

I would also suggest that the cop had the option to explain to the mother that her child is going to make things worse and that he would be forced to arrest both of them. BTW if my child boy or girl is acting a fool i would much rather a slap on the ass, or arm, or leg so they know they are out of line. Skipping all the way to tase them is an idiotic response.

How I would have handled the situation?

Even if a 12 year old was beating me i could have handled the situation without even beating the 12 year old. If you can't figure out how yourself... Are they trained in how to restrain MULTIPLE persons? They honestly could be, I don't know.

Let's be clear. The article says officers. So that isat least two. So two police officers ccouldn't control two small females, one of them being 12 years old.
