Vaping...and beer

Last month while picking out a vaping starter kit - I told the wife that the real test would be how I handled a dozen beers along with just vaping - no cigs.

35 years of smoking and drinking - the two have become symbiotic.

Being the doll she is - we picked up a twelve of Coronas on the way home.

I've given myself a month - just vaping...no cigs. And the Corona has sat in the bar fridge here in the office...untouched. I wanted to acclimate myself to the vaping without adding the alcohol variable.

Today...I'm on the second pint.

I've got the Innokin iTaste plugged into the usb port on the laptop - vaping apple-melon (18mg).

If my keyboard skills don't go to shit in a handbag (or I start soundin' like numbnuts Maxwell)...I'll update how the vaping's going around twelve.

(that's if I don't resist the urge to drag my ass down to the local pub for a few rounds of pool first)

Thanks ETD.

Well, I did a little office cleaning earlier and tossed out the last few (emergency) cigs I had layin' around - removing temptation, lol. And out went the smelly ashtrays, too.

Thinkin' I'm going to go through a lot of apple-melon juice tonight, though.

NHS? Not sure your reference.

Right now I'm vaping "Dragon's Blood" and enjoying life. Cigs are nasty. Enjoy your new life.

What's the flav of 'Dragon's Blood'?

I'm wishing we had a local bricks-'n-mortar vapor store in town...our closest is a 1/2hr. drive in Niagara Falls.

I've been talkin' with a buddy at work about the prospects of opening one ourselves - get the jump on the local market.

Kinda' figured as such.

Here in Canada, our Health Canada is officially against the nicotine-based vaping...but they're not enforcing regulations. I think they know it's a powder-keg issue - they're caught between the pressure of the RevCan tobacco taxation dept. and the obvious health benefits between vaping vs. cigs.

I suspect they know they'd fail miserably at a court challenge.

Congrats but nicotine is the true enemy. You are still quite addicted it that.

While you have removed much (if not most) of the negative effects of smoking you are still ingesting the active addictive ingredient.

Cold turkey is the most effective way to rid yourself of this once and for all. http://whyquit.com/

Yep.

I switched to vaping not as a cessation...but an alternative to eliminate a large chunk of the carcinogens in cigs.

Cost was also a consideration.

I still like my nicotine.

I tried cold turkey a few years back....lasted for 3 months. Nearly ended in divorce. (old dog/new tricks...doesn't work)

The wife fully supports vaping.

I think of it as baby steps. I bought a 'VV' vapor (variable voltage) so I at least have the option of dialing down the voltage/watts and reducing the intake of nicotine if I choose.

I started at 12 years old - stealing my mums cigs - 30 years later I thought I could never stop - With Vaping it was easy...

It's madness that the government would interfere - If they do decide to ban it I will get of my fat arse and cause a stink...

Kudos. I support you all the way in the activism.

Gov't interference is a given - the loss of taxation revenue is definitely going to hit them eventually...and they'll do/say whatever it takes to downplay the benefits of vaping. It'll exemplify the government's prediliction to deceive the public despite the facts.

I started at 14. I remember helping my mom roll my dad's cigs with a machine in the 70s (tubes and tobacco). He smoked into his 60s and then went for hypno-thereapy - which worked for him. He went cold-turkey after that.

Cats are lookin' at me wondering why I'm lost in a cloud of vapour.

Gettin' the urge to shoot some stick. (translation - play some pool)

Educate me please.

I've never researched this. Pretty sure I can find some answers on Google but why not help continue some discussion on GFY instead?

Over the last year or two, several smokers I know have quit smoking and are vaping instead. There are Vape shops popping up all over the place. It's obviously blowing up.

I've been told that some of the local shops are making their own flavors etc...

My question is...How do you know that this stuff isn't as bad or worse for you than cigarettes? Are there any Federal regulations in place for the manufacture of this stuff?

Are we going to see news stories 10 years from now about all the people who developed a new cancer from vaping?

I'm all for it if it's actually a safer alternative but what if it's not?

If I were a photographer - I'd take an amazing pic of myself vaping in the near-dark office with Van Halen cranked on the laptop/Yamaha system - and Corona beers.

Purpose of this thread, though...the vaping is a damn good substitute on cigs with beer.

Corona #9.

The simple answer is cigarettes are dangerous and vamping might be so what is the safer bet?

That's not an answer at all. It's basically the same question I just asked.

You take the lower risk option of vaping.

Honestly I cannot tell you if it is better or worse for you. I will say this though.

Vaping for me was a stepping stone to quitting completely.

I vaped (zero nicotine) instead of smoking and then weened myself off of vaping over a 2 month period.

So in my mind it is better than smoking even if it caused damage in that period as i am completely off the smokes now.

I don't mind discussing it further - I'm still new to it myself. The most informative forum I've found for it so far is e-cigarette-forum.com. It has a wealth of in-depth discussions.

Personally, I've been told to be wary of the backroom shop e-juice suppliers. The place we buy from (Novellus in Niagara Falls, NY) deals with a supplier that mixes the solutions ina lab setting - and has their solutions tested by a GMP laboratory in accordance with CFR 21 - code of federal food & drug regulations. It's routinely tested for consistency and quality by an independent lab.

To my knowledge, there is no federal regulations in Canada governing the e-liquid (yet). Technically its considered illegal to advertise and distribute - but not possess. But there's no enforcement of the laws at this stage.

Good question - and who knows. Time will tell. But from what I've read and the research I've done (so far)...I'd wager heavily that vaping is far less harmful to the health than cigarettes.

Last night I was vaping apple-melon...but a buddy mentioned he just picked up some black honey tobacco and says its very similiar to a Colts cigar. That's next on my list to try.

It is but it is versus assured damage. A car is driving straight at you. Do you stay there and die or jump left even though you are not sure what is to the left. You jump. It is the safer bet. Game theory.

I also switched on vaping months ago to stop smoking cigar but when I go out with my friends and they where all smoking cigars, I just kept my vape and smoke with them. Temptation is really hard to control. Tsk! Now, I'm smoking again.
