What Donny most likely doesn't understand is that there is a massive amount of evidence against him. I don't know this for a fact, but I am guessing every email, every text, and every website he ever viewed has come under scrutiny. Stuff that he has long since forgotten about will come out in court, and Donny will have no defense for it at all.

For example, one of the items mentioned in the news articles was that Donny had bought the girls "sexy lingerie". To the best of our knowledge, Donny hasn't had a love interest in years, which will lead the jury to believe he bought the lingerie for one of the girls - he bought lingerie for a teenage girl that was living with him? That might seem normal to Donny, but not in the eyes of a jury. Even less so after it's established that he worked in the porn industry.

I am also sure that every text Donny ever sent any of these girls will come up in court too.

I have a feeling he will get a chance to question the girls on the stand. Recently in one of the articles posted her it said they were combining the three cases against him into one trial because they had similar evidence and witnesses and it could keep the girls from having to testify 3 times. That said, I don't think his cross examination of them is going to go nearly how he thinks it will.

While I completely agree with what you are saying, do you mind sharing what you represented yourself in? I have represented myself at traffic court for example, but I would never do that for a criminal trial, even if I felt competent enough to manage the nuts and bolts of trial procedure and had a deep knowledge of the case law precedents.

They combined the trials, his attorney told him to plea because he's fucked and Donny fired him. That's the way that I see it went down. I don't give him credit enough to have planned anything. A good clue that Donny won't make it very far representing himself and he has no fucking clue what he is doing is him trying to make motions in open court. The judge having to tell him those sorts of things won't last very long. At the very least they will appoint him some sort of advisory counsel.

Not only that but his story has changed. I remember reading in one place (might be his letters posted on here or in an interview) that he said that prison guard did ask him to have sex with his daughter while he watched and Donny said he turned him down. He also said he didn't turn him in because he thought he could help him through the church. Then later he was flat out denying that he was ever asked.

Are you talking about traffic court or some small-claims type proceeding?? Because those types of "trials" are designed for self representation.

EDIT: never mind...you later said it was a felony charge...so I assume it was a criminal case prosecuted by a DA.

Donny Pauling won his first motion representing himself Thursday when a Sutter County judge agreed to postpone his trial to give him more time to prepare.

Judge Susan E. Green pushed back the Sept. 29 trial date to Dec. 1.

Charged with 19 counts of unlawful sex acts against three teen girls, Pauling fired attorney Roberto Marquez last week and began to represent himself.

Pauling, who said he left the pornography business in 2006, said he needed additional time because he only has two hours a day to work in the jail's law library. His bail is $1,025,000.

"I still don't know what I don't know yet," he told Green.

Deputy District Attorney Anu Chopra objected to postponing the trial, called it a delaying tactic and argued the victims were ready to testify. Thirty-five witnesses would have to be resubpoenaed to appear.

"Tell me why if I don't grant the continuance and he's convicted, this won't be reversed on appeal," Green asked Chopra before granting the motion.

The possibility of a plea deal was also briefly discussed. Pauling rejected a seven-year prison deal. He would serve at least half of the time, Chopra said.

Pauling filed a list of witnesses he intends to call, and while describing what testimony or evidence those individuals would provide, he said many were religious leaders who could speak about his character and his behavior around teenage girls.

I don't see reason for anybody here to be subpoenaed, other than possibly 1 or 2 people who knew him a bit more....Intimately. Other than me, I don't know of anybody else who has had any face to face contact with him since he left adult. I haven't been contacted by anybody about the case. Several months back I contacted one of his best friends about all this. He didn't have much to say other than he hardly saw Donny over the last few years.

I thought about attending the trial but considering it involves underage kids, I'd guess it's not something that will be open to the public.

I disagree. Speaking in public is one thing, testifying against unexpected questions he cannot defend himself against will be difficult if not impossible. He will be woefully unprepared for this.
