I eat very limited Carbs through the day and then a touch more on weekends. Keeps my weight down and I also hit the gym or some sort of workout as often as I can.

I do intermittent fasting, so my first meal is around 12 or 1...
I've been trying to get keto adapted for the last couple of weeks, which basically means switching your primary fuel source from carbs to stored fat. I'm doing a carb re-feed today, but on most days I've been doing about 50g at most, and upping my intake of good fats. I drink about 3 tablespoons of olive oil and have grass fed butter and coconut oil to supplement the fat intake. Contrary to popular belief, fat does not make you fat, carbs do...but don't expect the food industry to tell you that. Feel like crap now, but supposedly once the body gets into nutritional ketosis I'll feel great. I do know that the state I'm trying to get into makes more sense for getting rid of body fat. Early man wasn't munching on carbs all day for energy. They used stored body fat as an energy source to get them between fasts. That's what your fat is there for.

It's not bad to eat carbs, but I would just say try not to center every meal around them...and avoid bread. It's tough for me to eat with friends and family, because carbs are the focal point of everything they shovel down their gullets. And their bodies show it.

I eat more or less full scale meal as breakfast. It somewhat resembles food pie chart. I leave fancy trend diets for others.

I'v been going to a weight loss class. They have a nutritionist that runs it. Keeping everything in mind, lower carbs means lower calories. Replacing pasta with wheat pasta. I even started making things with ground turkey. Made some enchilada's with ground turkey and used plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Tasted really good. I eat salad everyday, vinaigrette dressings. Lost 20 lbs last month. Goal is 40 lbs before end of july when I'm getting married.

I've done keto on and off for about 3 years now, been on about 95% for the past year. While I have cheat meals on occasion, I really try to keep it on occasion. I try to keep it down under 40g of carbs because anything over makes me feel like absolute garbage. As in water retaining, joint aching garbage. People were trying to make me feel bad this past weekend for not eating some cake at a wedding this past weekend (hubby said it was very underwhelming tasting). How can I feel bad by not feeling bad? Let others eat cake, I'll take that cheese platter everyone is avoiding due to "too high fat". Btw, if you're feeling like crap, up your salt intake, magnesium and potassium. I found out that you can completely avoid keto flu/feeling bad during the month adaption period by maintaining those electrolytes. /r/keto is the best subreddit ever. |

Some carbs turn to glucose faster -- blood sugar.
So, complex carbs or simple carbs -- there is a difference. |

+ carbs are fun man! a lot of enjoyment in eating delicious carbs. mmmmmmmmm
gonna eat a toasted bagel with cream cheese bacon onions and tomato in about 2 hours. oh and some fresh pear! carbs are also a good excuse to be more active. want to justify some delicious carbs? go for a bike ride. but again, proper proportions and balanced overall eating are key. |

Probably the same reason most people go on and off. Get started and then you have carbs and you allow yourself to have another thing with carbs because you've already ruined the day and pretty soon that slides into a month or three.
Been pretty diligent the past 6 months or so because I'm just done feeling like crap. And apparently I'm a she bitch when carbs are in my diet and can't eat on time. |

As for carbs in the mornings? never.. spiking insulin first thing in the morning will make you starving the rest of the day and will start this snowball effect every day you do it. People use the excuse that they need energy in the mornings, which makes sense, but if i can do triathlons or finish a marathon without breakfast i'm pretty sure you can handle doing your day to day by waiting until later in the day to get those carbs in. ;)

that's incomplete.. that works once when you are low bodyfat to begin with, you can't exercise yourself down to single digits eating tonnes of carbs if you are overweight in the first place. believe me i've tried.. heh Once you are down you can have a lot of fun doing back loading with them though, no doubt.

And my goal is simply feeling good. On a low fat, high carb diet I pack on the water weight like no man's business. About 5kg to be exact. My joints ache from the inflammation and I'm ruled by my eating schedule. If lunch is regularly at 12pm (which is lunch break during work days) and I don't get food in me by 12:15, you DO NOT want to be around me. However, with keto (and 18/6 IF), there's no water weight, no hunger, and my blood sugar is stable. Mealtime is usually at 6pm but if it's at 7? No worries. Oh, and I actually sleep better and am way more energized. And there's absolutely no after dinner dips. |

Although if you eat red meat to fuel your ketosis, you are inflammated from the meat. You are of course inflammated from the red meat in any diet, but the more, the more you eat it.
You really do something wrong if you get serious problems from regular recommended diet, although I don't know what US government recommends, but in generally. Fries are not recommended by the way. |

it was not fun or easy for several reasons, the big one being it was very easy to go out of keto, i needed to stay under ~20g/day if i recollect right, and getting back into keto is not pleasant for me. the social restrictions are not easy either, i don't like denying things that i enjoy. after that was when i discovered IF. it's much easier for me to not eat for ~16 hours a day and it's also a good way to control blood sugars. i'm glad keto is working for you, different strokes and all, consciously choosing your lifestyle is the most important thing. |

The social restrictions have been the hardest mental block and the reason for sliding off over and over. But, I've figured out it's not the end of the world. I've figured out how to just ask for a cup of whipped cream while everyone else is eating ice cream (I prefer the whipped cream since most places serve it unsweetened and honestly, ice cream is WAY too sweet these days) or a cheese platter. Drinking isn't a big deal either since I don't drink a lot. |

I tried Keto even with added coconut oil I just couldn't get enough calories in even though I'm lean, felt like shit and fidgety, slightly anxious, like when you've had too much coffee. There has to be a balance between eating for long term health and being able to enjoy your meals and get on with your life. Since I added potatoes and rice as well as some fruits ( I still avoid pasta and bread) I feel much better.

Almost the exact same as this. I wake up at 5:30am, hit the gym at 6:10. Protein shake and snack (usually cashews) at 11am, big meal around 1pm, then salad with some eggs or chicken and a piece of fruit at 6:30pm.

I do fasted cardio most mornings (no food till after I do at least 30 minutes of cardio).
For breakfast I normally eat egg whites (6 eggs) and oat meal (30 grams of carbs) I try to keep my carbs low (150 grams per day) and I dont eat carbs after 6pm. I try to eat carbs that are low or medium on the glycemic index (wont raise your blood glucose as much) ...my on carbs and how I roll.

You couldn't have said it better. All my life I have been in decent shape, got out of shape around 22 as I stopped playing soccer as much but kept up my unhealthy eating habits. Skip ahead to 27 and I was somehow 237lbs. I didn't look huge but I was overweight. I lost 52lbs and got back to the shape I was when I was 20. I feel so much better when I'm working out and in decent shape than I ever did when I was overweight and eating cupcakes at night

I wake up drink water and go for a swim, go to the gym later when the sun comes down. If I want to get into single digit bf sure Keto is good over longer ketones don't give me the fuel I need. Thanks for the patronizing "if you don't know how to cook.." but I've eaten healthy all my life, hate cakes and sweet food in general. Edit: I also never said keto was unhealthy I said you have to strike a balance between healthy and enjoyment. |

Always falling back on eating balanced.. protein, a portion of carbs and vegetables. Intermittent Fasting is also good, technically more of an eating pattern than a diet though. A bodybuilder like you would probably tell me to push on and make some gains but I feel best at this weight, or maybe I'm just lazy at the gym |

I fluctuate based on the seasons. Here in the northeast we get some brutal winters so my weight goes up ten pounds, then down ten during spring/summer. Being a Webmaster doesn't help either with all those long hours at the keyboard. So ANY healthy living or exercise is a great thing.

Also ditch the fruits and salads for a while. Especially the fruits. its 100% sugar and thats bad. ONce you start to hit and maintain the target area of weight and fitness then you start to add back in the carbs fruits etc.

I'm not so sure about the needing carbs for energy thing. I go to the gym on an empty stomach at around 12 noon, and do heavy bench press and deadlift -- and hit my personal best sometimes. This is without food in my stomach for 18 hours.
I've been doing this for a year, even before starting the ketosis thing -- which I have done here and there for the last few months, but only now am I getting serious about it.
