I have always felt it was a combination of their insufferable arrogance combined with their almost incomprehensible stupidity that is unfortunately a common result of so much inbreeding. Growing up we had French exchange students living with us and they talked trash about the US constantly. It really pissed me off. They were teenagers and were already taught to hate America and its people. Apparently they grow up learning about why they should hate the US and what they think makes them so much better than us.

Never had an issue with people in France. When I was hitchhiking around the country I met a lot of people and they were always very pleasant and informed. A few even bought me lunch just so they could spend some time visiting with an American.

The only thing I ever found odd was that in Paris,especially around the left bank guys would piss in the street at night while walking between clubs.

I have to say Paris is the most beautiful city i have seen. Also the only stories I have a really rude people is in Paris so you get the good and the bad with them. They have very poor manners as a norm and it makes it hard to like them.
