I think Obama's basically a good guy. But, i dear that things in Washington will STILL be "same ol, same ol" The 2 parties basically just hate each other at this point.

It went pretty much like I thought it would. He said he wants to cut spending, but then talked about things he wants to spend money on. He also seemed to basically be asking for a do-over. I have said all along that I thought he was getting some stuff done and that he was also doing things I didn't like. Now he is doing what every president does once elected. He is trying to pander to the middle. He realizes that health care reform is not the #1 thing on people's minds, jobs and the economy are. So he says he is going to focus on that, plus he is going to work on many other things. I just hope he will find a way to juggle them and I hope he actually follows through on some of this stuff.

A few things I did like: He basically told the republicans flat out that just threatening to filibuster every bill no matter what it is about is not what people elected them to do. He also called out the supreme court on their terrible recent decision on corporate funding of political races and he says he is going to make a bigger effort to work with the republicans. I also liked that he scolded the democrats for being spineless by reminding them that they have the largest majority in a century and they are not getting anything done.

We'll see where we sit a year from now. If things are going as he says the economy will be recovering well, we will be out of Iraq and preparing to leave Afghanistan. I hope he is right.

I personally do not think that we will be out of Iraq or Afghanistan in your lifetime...at the least. I also cannot envision our economy recovering to a robustness that it once had. I think our economical peak is behind us...but I suspect that we will remain the richest most powerful country on the earth for several decades more.

It is very possible that we will never leave Iraq. He even said we will support them which means if there is trouble (an there will be) we could end up right back in there. These places are unstable. they have been since the beginning of recorded history, thee is no reason to think that will change any time soon.

As for the economy, it may not ever get back to what it was. The last bubble we had during the Bush era was mostly created by a falsely overinflated housing market. There are some houses that may never regain the value they once had and until we shift back into a country that sells things and doesn't just try to create wealth out of thin air we will always have issues.

It's funny the people that say he lies... because if he did what he said he was going to or, or could... you would bitch about that.

With most of you, even if he recovered the eco and did what he said he would.... you would still be haters.

Sounded like people are clapping at ridiculous rhetoric again. Republicans only clapped at rhetoric they use. These state of the unions are getting very hard to watch.

Economy will not get better until we drop using the Keynesian theory and start using Austrian.

Usually I would full disagree with that and I've been thinking that China would step into the lead for the most powerful country, based on their explosive growth. However, I've been reading a lot on the possible bubble (about to burst) in China and now many of the Chinese banks curbed lending just this week.

If China is indeed cooking the books, then I agree with you, the USA will remain, even if she has a black eye and a few broken teeth. If China is not cooking their books, then China will become the worlds most powerful country within the next few years UNLESS Obama pulls black rabbits out of his ass.

I wish we would get knocked out of our spot as being the most powerful nation. Maybe then we could just relax and be a nation that cares about its people rather than its image to the rest of the world.

Your post is Fox News/Republican talking points...that is all. I did not hear him promise anything in his address. He presented some ideas...ideas that cannot be accomplished without both the House and the Senate approving of those ideas in the form of a bill. I do not think that many...if any of his ideas will be approved because the Senate will use their filibuster power to block major bills. The Republicans, as well as the Democrats when the power is on the other side...are more partisan than they have been in my life time...and are about party and not country.

It will take them decades to reach our GNP even if they are not cooking the books...which I personally believe they are.

You actually think I would bitch if he worked with the GOP instead of shutting them out, You actually think I would bitch if he had transparency, or what about the pork spending, he said ZERO, he back pedaled on that too. These are the things that piss me off, these are the promises he blatantly broke. NOw he's trying to appeal to the masses by going populous? LIke changing the don't ask don't tell in the military, I have a daughter in the military, one of the biggest cool things about the military is tradition, the government has fucked up things so much with political correctness that they have to give out good conduct medals after 3 years now instead of 4 because it's so fucking hard to get one with all the BS they have to abide too.

I got a different reading from it, I got a campaign speech, it was polished and he read his teleprompters very well, ever notice he barely looks at the camera anymore? Like when you talking to someone and they can't look you in the eyes because they are lieing out their ass! He promised a spending freeze , it was like closing the barn door after the horses ran out, then he wants a spending bill for jobs? WTF?

HOw many people are going to play the blame game, when he took office, he took responsibility, placing blame on Bush a year later it fucking WEAK!

some of you need to realize the president isn't going to save you-
or the economy.

you are going to save you and the economy.

that is if you can grasp and run with hard work and optimism.

to say the economy can't/won't ever produce at a previous level is myopic and naive.

less bitching more working is the answer.

The government needs to back off on it's plan to break the 10th amendment, quit taxing the shit out of small business and quit growing, more government has to be paid with more taxes and that hurts the economy and underminds growth

I do not love or hate Obama. There is a vast area in between those two feelings where the average person sits. However I do realise that it's politically saavy for his opponents to want to state this, because it's easier to generate "fight" in your people if they think Obama is some evil being with hoardes of zombie-like followers who've got to be stopped.

Not a bad speech. It's not hard for regular people to understand that it's time to stop some wasteful spending and focus more on what brings better returns. Certainly not hard for affiliate webmasters to understand that. Hopefully the "shame shame shame" part worked too, but the shame bone is one thing most politicians lack.

And of course as usual, Obama could save a drowning nun and some people would complain that he's interfering with Gods will.

i don't need a political sci/econ lesson, thx though.

i stand by my post, the answer to the current economic issues is to assume responsibility for yourself and to stop waiting for the government to do this or stop that.

We are never leaving Iraq.
We must leave Afghanistan before it is too late.
Obama is a great shepherd.

precisely.

just like saying he doesn't look at the cameras equates to not looking citizens in the eye while others state that his looking in the cam = reading from the teleprompter.

it's no-win/zero sum game in washington.

people choose to not work hard for themselves, instead choosing to bitch about the current situation whilst sitting back, arms folded, watching television.

I don't know how many of you picked up on it, but concerning the troops coming home,

The KEY WORD he used was COMBAT TROOPS will be coming home. So that could mean what?

It means the same thing as why we have bases all over the world. We are not going anywhere.

i stand by my post, the answer to the current economic issues is to assume responsibility for yourself and to stop waiting for the government to do this or stop that.

it ain't going to happen.
Hard to be responsible for yourself when bad government makes bad choices, I don't think 12.5% of the population in California is waiting for the government to help them out.

LOL, Glad my daughter joined the NAVY! She's on the Ronald Reagan, she's damn safe on that big ass ship!

I do find it funny that the biggest ship in the navy is named after a president that was in the Army!

I am not sure how many people are happy with throwing MASSIVE taxes at a failing system. It's hard to make good choices when half of your income is taken away and given to AIG or people on welfare. After a certain point .... there's no point.

Obamas lies are about the way things are done, not about what he wants to do. Promising to do something about the economy is one thing, or maybe pulling the troops back. But he lied about bipartisanship, transparency and pork spending to such an extreme that it's sickening.

When he pulled all the democrats in behind closed doors to make special pork deals, he broke all those in one day!

Why aren't you bitching at the GOP for not working with him, the dems or listening to what the majority of the country wanted? Basically that's the issue... not Obama.

You may want to read what was actually said about pork spending or earmarks....then read what happened.

On Transparency he never said everything... he said more, and he is far more transparent than the previous administration. It sounds like you're expecting far too much.

Yep, every president ever, has broken some promises - it's part of the job, the heart wants more than it can deliver. Or what others will allow you to deliver.

Appeal to the masses? He did that with the health care bill and loud morons went nuts about it... so he changed direction. He got kicked in the balls and is changing direction, like he should.

I'm confused on the Don't ask Don't Tell, wouldn't you support him removing that, being that it's not part of tradition and is just political bullshit?

I really don't care on the conduct medal... just the fact that someone ever changed it is stupid, and now that it is 3 years, changing it back or giving a shit about it, is equally as stupid.

that's exactly what i am talking about- the government hasn't stopped me from working hard and creating new ways of adding to my income. why? because i'm not sitting around waiting for the gov to do something for me, i've realized that ain't gonna happen.

here's what he said---Let each bill pass or fail on its own merits?no pork , no pay

I'm expecting him to keep to his word, he could have proved it, but instead did deals behind the door away from C-Span, something again he promised not to do

He could have worked with the GOP, he could have kept to his word of no pork, he could have let C-Span in like he promised, but refused, these are simple things that was a promise that he made to state he was different and got him elected

I havn't seen a direction change yet, just more promises, we'll see, but the healthcare bill he was pushing down everyone throat was wrong

I'm all for gays serving in the military, why shouldn't they? Just tired of a president that has no service experience making changes in the military.

Some people can do that, many others can't
You can't tell me that 12.5% of california are to blame for unemployment

it's not a debate.

i said those of us able to work should be working, not bitching about what the government hasn't done for us.

again, suit yourself but seriously, 12.5% unemployment here in cali has nothing to do with YOU assuming responsibility for yourself.

it's clear this country is filled with people that view the current situation like you do- they feel helpless in their own lives because they expect a broken government to fix their situation.

anyhoo, good luck to you, i like you.
