That would be incorrect, the first "Ceasar" was Julius III, after him they used his name as a title. This is very true. The actual number that was given to me was 328,667 approx. far cry from 2^60 but still a hell of a lot of people.

The thing I cannot get my head around is that I can be related by blood to both Julius Caesar AND Constantine the great, and yet Constantine the Great was not blood related to Julius Caesar...The Professor explained it to me and it made sense but it's all so confusing.

I think perhaps you need to read a book on it. I've been a student of ancient history for many years. Caesar was just a name until julius made himself an emperor...it was a democracy before him, there was no "Caesar" there was a Senate.

Yeah, genalogic research can certainly turn up some interesting things. I ran extensive searches a few years ago and ended up pissing off most of my extended family. See the guy who first came over from Germany was named Joseph XXXXX. This is how he was recorded when he hit Ellis Island in the mid 19th Century. He was known as Reb Joseph before he left Regensburg, Germany. One of my relatives asked if the "Reb" meant that he was on the Confederate side of things in the Civil War and I had to break the news to them that "Reb" meant that he was a Rabbi! Seems at that time it was politically more expedient, potentially more profitable and easier to get through the immigration process if one declared to be anything but a Jew, so the guy declared to be a Catholic but I found out that they practiced Judaism at home, appearing Catholic in public well into the 20th Century. Jews didn't get on well in Western Kansas in the 1860s, you see and were not really accepted by the already strong German Catholic community there.

My findings upset some of the relatives to the extreme when they found out that they were all really closet Jews! A couple of them still won't speak to me and deny the validity of my findings. Letters from surviving relatives in Germany however have since confirmed my earlier research.

I simply reply, "Just the facts, Ma'am!"

I was raised a Mormon, so always had my Book of Remembrance to trace my family tree and read accounts of my ancestors crossing the Mormon Trail and who they lived, travelled, played, etc.

I've always been fascinated with genealogy from reading from the book. The last time I read it was probably 25 years ago, so don't remember all of it, but know it went back about 10 generations.

I'd been thinking of giving ancestory.coma try. I don't care about going back as far as the Julius Caesar years, but still going back a couple hundred years.

I started it, bit of a pain in the ass. The correct way is to put the women's maiden names, but it only links you to the records if you put their married names.

I ran extensive searches a few years ago and ended up pissing off most of my extended family. See the guy who first came over from Germany was named Joseph XXXXX. This is how he was recorded when he hit Ellis Island in the mid 19th Century. He was known as Reb Joseph before he left Regensburg, Germany. One of my relatives asked if the "Reb" meant that he was on the Confederate side of things in the Civil War and I had to break the news to them that "Reb" meant that he was a Rabbi! Seems at that time it was politically more expedient, potentially more profitable and easier to get through the immigration process if one declared to be anything but a Jew, so the guy declared to be a Catholic but I found out that they practiced Judaism at home, appearing Catholic in public well into the 20th Century. Jews didn't get on well in Western Kansas in the 1860s, you see and were not really accepted by the already strong German Catholic community there. My findings upset some of the relatives to the extreme when they found out that they were all really closet Jews! A couple of them still won't speak to me and deny the validity of my findings. Letters from surviving relatives in Germany however have since confirmed my earlier research. I simply reply, "Just the facts, Ma'am!" Sally.

The last time I read it was probably 25 years ago, so don't remember all of it, but know it went back about 10 generations. I'd been thinking of giving ancestory.coma try.
