Banks

- they destroy the system
- you have high banks fees for things that costs nothing
- they want to monitor everything on you
- they don't have to be transparent with you

Banks are fine. Governments with debt are the ones that break the system.

Banks are just a tiny part of the problem. If you want to see the real culprit, do some homework on the Federal Reserve. And if you really want to bake your noodle, look up what fractional reserve banking is. These cock suckers get to loan out your same dollar multiple times AND collect interest on all those fake dollars they don't even have.

Boggles the mind.

We may very well see fraction reserve banking unravelling before our very eyes tomorrow when Greece vote on whether or not to say in the euro. If they exit the euro bank runs are a real possibility

What bank charges $120 for a wire fee?

With respect to "you have high banks fees for things that costs nothing"

What are you being charged for that costs nothing?

Pretty standard for an international wire in most places where you pay fees for both parties. If you would be in Japan, Singapore or Cayman Islands 120 bucks would be a bargain for such. You can always change your bank. I heard French and Dutch banks charge around 10 Euro per standard Swift wire.

You need to shop around. Every bank is cheap at something. In the old days when I was running a mailorder some banks charged me $30 for cashing US$ cheques. Then I found a bank that charged $15 for batches of 5 cheques maximum so I paid $3 per cheque.

Within Europe all wires in Euros are now free btw.

$42 transfaction fee from sponsor
approx. $45 of fee from a second bank (i don't know what it is)
$20 intermediate bank fee (written on my paper)
$12.2= transaction fee (my bank)
$12.2= flat conversion tax (dollar to euro)

It makes, $120 to $140

Usually it is more $70 and this amount is free money for them.
You don't need to wonder why emoney (paypal, epassporte, paxum) is so popular.
Paypal is the cheapest.

How much was the transfer amount? If it was like 20k the fees sound ok.
Paypal is not cheap at all. They charge 3% for transactions and another 2% for currency conversion. A 20k PP transfer would have cost you around 1k.

We just switched everything over to a credit union. That said, banks are like any other business - they provide services you may or may not choose to buy from them, and if you don't like one, shop the competition. There are bad banks, bad restaurants, and bad porn sites. I try not to buy from the bad ones. I decided I didn't like Chase, so I switched to Texas Federal Credit Union, which I like better. No whining needed.

I know it's not exactly the same but we have a country that has already gone through a Greece style default but on a much smaller scale with Iceland so it's interesting in the sense that this has happened to a country recently. The ramifications of a default are not on the same scale though

Scary and sobering posts as always JHC, I know you've mentioned you're big into the survivalist marketing in MS but try and keep a level head. If you spend too much time around those folk you'll be convinced the sky is falling tomorrow.

I have no doubt what you have posted will happen, the problem is when. I thought it was going to happen in 2008, 4 years on it still hasn't happened. This could continue like this for another 5 or 10 years before everything collapses or longer, no one really knows

Looks like the pro bailout coalition are going to form in Greece, I'm rather surprised by the result tbh but it will just delay the inevitable

Plus the other day the Spanish 10-Year Yield Hit 7.0%!!!!!

To be fair though it can work rather well if you have a more valuable commodity to back your fiat currency with, i.e. oil hence the birth of the Petrodollar and having the ability to defend that new standard with the biggest and best military on the planet

You nailed it earlier with what you said about the history of Europe, imo the leaders are shit scared of history repeating itself with more wars if the euro collapses so they will do everything possible to hold this union together plus there is also the fact it took so so long to setup through so many agreements that they don't want it to fail at any cost.
