Whats a better place to stay on upper east side, 77th or 92th street? Isn't the 92th too far from everything? There is a simpler condo on the 77th to rent and a better one with many amedities in the building on the 92th. What to choose?

77th but depends. Its still far from alot of things. You probably want 50th and below

The thing is, on 92th, I would have gym, pool and other stuff within the building and would just leave to explore the city. Same price for each.

I don't plan any nightly adventures, pretty much just exploring the attractions during the day and using taxi most of the time. Still too dangerous?

Studio to 1 bedroom. And vacation rentals(even long term) cost twice as much as 1 year rentals. I'm at 3k/month for what I need.

I'd pick the 77th one. As far as distance... 20 blocks isnt going to make much of a difference but at least its a safer neighborhood.

There isnt anything that interesting in terms of night life and food above the 50s anyway.

Have you been to the L.E.S. in the past 5 years? It actually safer than in the 30s now with all the boutique hotels and shops. Back before 99 it was sketch, now it's a way different vibe. Actually I think its a bit to safe and cutesy for my taste anymore. But they do have some of the best places to eat... WD-50...etc

Last time I was there was about 2 years ago... the housing projects still went pretty hard, but the neighborhood as a whole was a lot better.

Thats the crazy thing about NYC... every area changes for the better every 2-3 years. Look at Brooklyn and what has happened there in the last 10 Years.

Word, Fort Green is like a whole new world these days... Brooklyn changed a lot... and Harlem. Hardest hit by gentrification I guess. But the crime rates in central Brooklyn are still high as fuck.

But it feels like the Bronx has been making a turn for the worse. All these harlem rejects moved here and are competing with the natives for turf. They're all being stuffed into these giant cheeply built low income buildings with a million tiny apartments in them. They're kinda like mini housing projects lol.

The projects on 92nd street are named "the John C Holmes Houses " lol and I think they are designated for the elderly. So you might have some 1930s G's living there. The whole city has been cleansed of the "bad element" from 130th and below. Stay at the best place below 125th street and pay the extra 3 dollars on your cab rides.This place is disney land compared to what it used to be.Even the bad parts are high end

That's where I was born and have been living pretty much since 99. In 99 it was still a bit rough but over the past 5 years the change is crazy.

I think some parts of NYC, like Central Brooklyn & East NY will always be rough. That's the nature of the city.

Williamsburg played itself out 5 years ago. To many Manhattanites and trust fund babies. It was alot more fun in the early 2000s with places like Cokie's and Sparky's

Midtown is all booked short-termish. About the amedities, the one on the 77th has zero, its just an apartment. The one on the 92th has a 24/7 front desk, pool, gym, children's playroom, etc. It is also bigger.

92nd isn't bad at all. Unless your name is Pete The Fly.

The only thing you should check is how far away it is from the train. 92nd could be more convenient than 77th. Hell, 125th is more convenient than 77th and York. Subway stop distance matters.

Wow. Not too bad. We paid $2600 for a one bedroom in the East Village about 10 years ago now...and had none of those amenities.

Seriously. Fuck cabs if you are that far up. Train it like the rest of the people. (for the record, i'm from NJ about 12 miles from Manhattan and almost always drive in... That may change as I heard somewhere that the tolls are going up AGAIN over their present $8.

To the OP, you may want to consider looking into a place like Hoboken or Weehawken in NJ. They are right across the river and very close to various forms of mass transit right into midtown.
